Couple of nice trout (NZ)

Good start to winter trout fishing. Caught some nice fat, healthy trout. Male weighed around 4lb. These fish would have been stocked around 4 years ago and behave very much as wild fish. Fillets will be prepared as gravad lax and/or cold smoked.

Sadly, we are going to lose this trout fishery for various political reasons, so I am enjoying the swan song.

Nice fish. I haven’t fished for years for one reason or another. Still got all the gear; maybe one day.
Have a friend in NZ, she keeps sending me pics which make me rather envious. 👍

You must get over there. Highlight of my fishing life catching wild rainbows from a NZ river!

One of mine too.

Fishing near Paradise on the South Island I hooked a large fish on a dry fly and light tackle. This fish couldn’t be bullied and I played it for fifteen minutes whilst being bitten by sand flies. I still haven’t worked out whether landing the 6lb fish was worth the bites which bothered me for days afterwards.

Sand flies are bustards. We picked them bites up wearing shorts when we shouldn’t. Had to get something from a local chemist and wife’s bites were inflamed for a couple of weeks.
