Vince Green
He was one of my heros I've read his autobiography, its quite an interesting story, He never earned the big money that players earn today. When he was top goal scorer for Tottenham he was still earning only double what his brother was getting as a postman. There was no security and few long term prospects back in those days. He thought many times of jacking it in and getting a proper job with a pension. Funny old world, I wonder what he thought of the pay the players get today. adzyvilla
He was an absolute goal machine, scoring for fun most seasons in an era when strikers were afforded little protection from professional hackers on pitches that made the somme look like a billiard table. A phenomenal record as a pro, before the era of the megastar footballer. We won't see the likes of him again.
Vince Green
The Tottenham Chairman used to pay him an illegal £10 bonus, cash in hand, for every goal he scored. He attributes his phenominal goal tally on not only wanting but badly needing that money to get by. He was living beyond his means and that was the start of his drink problems. He became a celebrity football player, maybe the first, but never had an agent and gave interviews and appearences, never got a penny for them Edited September 20, 2021 by Vince Green
