But this  is pretty much how most of them are.

I am lacking experience there. I have only been to 5 gun shops. Greenfields is by far the worst. The next couple were more shooting and fishing and were more about cleaning products.

Avalon in both Street and Mendip shooting club were super kind and even when I said "don't worry I'm not buying" to put them off, when quiet have said "how about you tell me what you are looking for, and we can see how they feel in your hand for the future". Really quite nice service, laid back, zero pressure.
I think I met a shooting superstar in there also who gave me a tip to bring my nose in slightly, as that was why I was shooting slightly to the right. I won't mention who it was, but at the time I had no idea who it was so he probably found it amusing! :D

Sounds like your example was cringeworthy, and the ground not letting you have a peek?! Maybe they thought you were a Packham fan ;)

I'd been to another dealer and was passing by. I showed them my ticket. They probably didn't know what it was.  Anyway I wasn't fussed I was only passing by so it didn't inconvenience me. But others have said that they experienced similar so goodness only knows how much trade they lost. Similar to hantsrob on the previous page didn't spend money on a new gun. Can any business afford to turn customers away. If it were my business the staff would have had extensive retraining.

It's strange how we Brits completely absorb rules and  regulations of all sorts. Whereas everyone ( Johnny foreigner  generally) only pay lip service to all of this.  AND we generally make these rules even more complex.  Slowly  shooting sports in this country are being demolished by the death by a thousand cuts.  I shoot 22rf target and years ago if a few lads showed up we would let them have a few rounds at the target but all of that has gone.  Any prospective club member has to serve a probationary period before they can even go on the range and touch a weapon.  Therefore there are no incoming youngsters and that's before certificates ect, ect.  Only the other day there was that countryfile thing on here where our supposed representitive never once challenged or disputed the random claims that were being thrown at him. How many young shots do you know.?  Unless you own or have access to land it won't take long for shoots to disappear what with effect of covid, non issuing of new certificates and the general cost.

Thats right but the scare factor is already being felt. Already the market for older shotguns, particularly SxS has gone through the floor.
