deeksofdoom
So was out today to see if I could find some of those illusive twisted hazel sticks, I went down into a piece of forestry in a deep glen with a little stream flowing down the middle of it and found these in the middle of it. Not doglegged could be straightened with a bit of effort. Where do you get yours? or how do you find yours? Walker570
Any of you chaps live near Credenhill, Hereford. Then have a look in the northern end of the wood. I cut a lot of sticks there with very good twists. That part of the wood seems to have a lot of honeysuckle growing in it which does the job. Owned by Woodland Trust these days so may be wrecked. This one came out of there. Ash as most of them were Edited February 26, 2022 by Walker570

boo
Usually go in the garage and pick one out ! In reality funny where they grow , there's one wood on an estate we're can go pigeon shooting, it's twisty heaven , all surrounding woods not a one , but hazel ! Don't mind a twisty but not my favourite, cut about 50 good blackthorn this year & one of them is a twisty...

I cut one which had just started to make a mark but was not showing any sign of twisting. The other has not started to show any sign of making progress after five years. I think the fact the honeysuckle is also growing and inflicting a crushing force on the piece also helps. Cannot beat nature. You definitely have to have a lot of honey suckle to find them in numbers and straight, because often the honeysuckle will pull the stick over in an arch. Stimo22
If they are just arched and not kinked they are no problem to straighten. I have a bit of steel tube about metre long and fit a wallpaper stripper in one end let them steam for about 15 mins and the straighten very easy. They have to be dried for about 12 months first
