flippermaj
With a modest East breeze and a mid day high tide I thought I would see if there were any duck about, generally they don’t come into the bit I was planning to shoot until a bit later in the season but you have to start some time! Chucked two decoys out as that’s all it takes to get a shot if they are coming to this bit. Plan B was to get under a few pigeons if the duck were a no show, the pigeons often cross this marshy bit along a flight line. Well first shot was at a pigeon that was duly downed but dropped dead the other side of the deep creek in thick reeds. The dog swam over and did a first class blind retrieve. The shot put up a lot of mallard and teal, way more than I would expect at this time of year so it looks like they had a good breeding season. There were also way more greys and Canada’s than I have ever seen at this point of the season. The pigeons kept obliging but the geese and duck stayed away bar one hen mallard that dropped to a nice high shot into the creek and had disappeared by the time we got to it. We walked back at the end of the session and a 30 minute detour got us to the opposite side of the creek where we could see it floating dead on the edge of the reeds from the side we had just come from! Luckily I got the dog across to pick it. The pigeons look a bit bedraggled as they all landed in water! Can’t beat wildfowling for pigeons😂

flippermaj
Gerry, it’s an AYA Yeoman. 2.75 inch chambers. Went out for an hour this morning on the sea wall as that’s all I had, not a puff of wind but managed three flighting pigeons………..with the SXP pump though! Had hoped the geese may move when the tide pushed……they moved alright, they just floated up, as flat as a mill pond🤣 Now in Skye for a few days to catch a few fish.
