Hopefully some of you good folk can give me a little advice. I've got my eye on a old Miroku 800sw for a rough shooting gun pigeons and the odd keepers day. It's choked at 1/4 1/2 but the owner isn't sure if it's a trap' skeet' sporter or game gun. From the photos the rib doesn't seem to high

So my question is can a trap or skeet gun be used for pigeons I've browsed Google without any success. The owner has used it on clays previously

Thanks in advance guys 👍

No. In fact it is illegal. There was a recent case in Leicestershire where a shooter got five years in prison as his usual O/U "Sporter" was in for repair and so he brought his O/U "Trap" gun and used it on a round of Sportrap. He was arrested that same day and held in custody until trial and sentence. But the hardest penalty was the shame he had to bear of using the wrong gun.

LOL! Joking apart yes it'd be ideal although you may have to "think" about how you use the barrel selector and might find it worthwhile on a pair of incoming pigeons or pheasant to take the furthest bird some way out and as your first shot with the 1/2 choke and the nearmost bird second shot with the 1/4 choke. The 1/2 choke will also be best for shooting pigeons already sat on a tree branch.

I have a 800SW sporting/game gun, had it from new and in my opinion one of the best O/U of the time, lots still in the hands of their original owners.

A few pictures may help identify which model you have.

If the chokes you have quoted are correct and its not been bored out I would say its not a trap gun.

Choke markings.
