No it's not, but it is virtually identical.

Not before, covid. At least I've never been asked to, so not 'normal' at all.

So what about when meeting friends, family etc.? Was it normal to wear a mask when meeting them before covid?

Its not virtually identical, the flu isn't even the same type of virus, and same for some common cold viruses. Covid is all year round the cold and flu are sessional. As for meeting freinds etc, i doint know anyone that wears masks. As for wearing a mask when visiting hospital with the flu or where flu is know to be present.

UK NHS guidance.

Visitors ● Visitors to all areas of the hospital or healthcare facility should be kept to a minimum. ● Visitors with influenza symptoms should not enter the healthcare facility and should be encouraged to return home. ● It is particularly important that every effort is made to ensure that people with influenza symptoms do not enter wards or units – such as haematology and transplant units – where there are immunocompromised patients. ● All visitors entering a cohorted area must be instructed on hand hygiene practice and the use and removal of appropriate PPE, ie a surgical mask, when in a cohorted area, and a surgical mask, gloves and apron for close patient contact.

Covid is not the cold or flu, but if i had the flu and had to go to a medical facility yes i would be asked to wear a mask and would wear a mask.

So if you decide to wear a mask you are not living free, are you not living free because you are required to wear a seat belt then

I feel you’re really clutching at straws now….whether we feel it’s infringing our freedoms or not, we are required by law to wear seat belts.
The flu can kill the vulnerable just as easily as covid, yet even though flu is seasonal, no one is required to mask up in ‘flu season’.
Like I’ve said, you are perfectly entitled to wear a mask if you so wish, others are equally entitled not to. That’s all there is to it.

And no one is required to mask up now with Covid, apart from some health care facilities.

You never mentioned within health care facilities when you first started this nonsense, as far as I can recall, but even so there is still no obligation for those with covid or flu to mask up anywhere, as the only way you’ll know if you have covid or the flu is to test for it, and there is no test for flu and no one I know is testing for covid! So just how would those people know?
So what point is it you’re trying to make, that we should all mask up just in case or that we should continue testing?

I am not saying and did not say anyone should wear a mask just in case, I did say i have no issue with wearing a mask in health care facilities. I said health care facilities because as far as i know its only place a mask is required for infection control.

It’s amazing that with all we know now (including the latest stats) there are some who think we should all be wearing masks such that 99% suffer for 1%, and yet where that 1% are more than able and welcome to wear masks / nail their front doors shut. It’s just selfish.

Fortunately, elderly and infirm people I know just aren’t that selfish.

Ironically, the person I know who has the biggest health concerns (elderly lady with a seriously long list of just about everything and who is always in and out of hospital) has just had covid and fully recovered from it. Go figure. But no, let’s shut down the world starting with the young spreaders eh? Oh how we look back and laugh, not.

You are talking about the past, there are no Covid restrictions in the uk that i am aware of. Who thinks everyone should be wearing masks ?

For crying out loud!! YOU DO! And I quote….’ Out of courtesy to the vulnerable’ !!!!

What i said bellow, at no point in this thread did i say i thought everyone should be wearing masks. Why are you making things up out of context of what i said ? Quote the whole post where did i say i thought everyone should be wearing a mask ?

Quote

Quote Manta. I did not say anyone should wear a mask, I said that it would be common courtesy if somewone had Covid to wear a mask. As for people that are who are vulnerable they are taking self responsibility but there are things out of their control health care appointments for example, I doint think its to big a ask for in that type of settings for masks to be worn.

Right! Ok, not ‘everyone’ then! Let’s put this to bed shall we!
Did you or did you not suggest that people who have covid wear masks out of a courtesy to the vulnerable? Yes or no?
If so, you are obviously advocating that we continue testing for covid ( even though there is no obligation to do so ) otherwise how will people  know if they have it or not?
Have I got that correct?

So how do you know you have Covid and not the Flu or a Cold?

It was virtually identical to a cold when I had it, I couldn't tell the difference.

I was going to respond to the Friends and family bit, but Scully has that one covered.

Was this advice before Covid, or now?

I have never been asked to wear a mask in and medical facility, apart from when all the overreaction to Covid happened.

Yes if you know you have Covid i would suggest wearing a mask if you are in close contact with others, yes that would involve taking a test. There is a BIG difference in that than suggesting everyone should wear a mask.  I know that if i had symptoms i would take a test for the reasons above, to try and avoid spreading to frends and famaly and others.  People are free to do whatever thay want its their choice, at this time there are no Covid restrictions or mask mandates in the UK apart from healthcare settings.

Jesus H! Is it me?
‘If you know you have covid’!

BUT YOU WONT KNOW IF YOU HAVE COVID UNLESS YOU TEST! 🤷‍♂️
You claim we’re back to normal, but how is continued testing each time we have a cold or whatever, getting us back to normal? Or indeed wearing a mask?
Not only that It means we’ve developed a vaccine for no reason!

I don’t know anyone who is testing any more - indeed, why would they unless they were attention seeking and or a hypochondriac.

Things are back to normal take a test or not is up to the individual no one is making them. I said what i would do no one is making you do anything, why are you getting your knickers in a twist because of what i would do its called personal choice.

I know an individual in work who is testing his wife is taking immunosuppressants and is CEV, you see that as attention seeking and or a hypochondriac. I see it as concern for his wife's welfare, but everyones different views on caring for their family members.

And if he gets covid, what’s he going to do, not go home?

He should probably wear a mask, nail his front door shut and moan about all the kids going about their lives and not wearing masks.

I think we’re done here, before I get myself banned. 👋
