Blackpowder
With a ban on lead bearing down on us I am considering having the barrels of a favourite gun sleeved. Its a John Dickson R/A so top quality. Has anyone had this done recently , if so what was the cost. Blackpowder

Dave at kelton
Be worth ringing Graham Mackinley and asking him as it’s a Dickson. Last I heard for laser welded was 3-4K. I do though question why although I thought similarly until this season. I have a nice side lock side lever but with thin barrel walls in part. Used Eley Ecosteel for 2.5” chambers and no issues to date.

Replacing thin barrels with much thicker barrels can make a significant difference to handling.

Bear68
I have a Hardy Bros 16 bore with damascus barrels. I looked into resleeving it; the cost was several thousand pounds from memory. I decided it was cheaper to buy bismuth cartridges.
Gunman
As probobly the only person on this site who was actively involved in sleeving I can say the cost these days will be for most guns prohibitive . In its heyday sleeving was done on a large scale so buying tubes in quantity , machining in batches as well as all the other work made it cost effective , but when sourcing small quantities of tubes and the man hours spent doing one at a time puts the cost up . Add to that the increasing cost of transport to and from proof ,engraving , blacking etc it all adds up . John Gibbs , Mick Louca [Watson Bros ] and Phil Turner [Bozzard ] are still doing some sleeving as far as I know ,but the last price I heard some 6 years ago was around £1800 then . matone
If you`re seriously concerned buy a heap of Bismuth cartridges now but I`m sure other alternatives will come forth ,once the market is there.

Yes if I keep the gun it sounds a good plan.
