Wraith IR torch

How have others set up theirs?
I initially experienced ‘flare’ on the screen caused by mine, even though it’s set back from the actual Wraith. I concocted a cover which extended the IR aperture out front, but the picture on screen although much better, isn’t really ‘doing it’ for me, and wondered if a better IR torch would improve things? 🤷‍♂️

Im assuming you have the supplied torch ?

If so , its not the best, good for ranges maxing 150 yards , but 100 yards is more realistic.
Make sure your eyepiece focus is set so you can clearly see the icons on screen, then use the main focus to crisp the image up, many people fail to get the eyepiece focus right , and everything fails after that.
Keep magnification down , it might well mag up to 24 x , but in my experience , the image is useless at this, 10 x max , in my opinion.

The Wraith is IR hungry, and I would be surprised if youre getting white out , unless at very close ranges.
If you need to go past the theoretical 100 - 150 yards capable of the supplied torch , you need  another torch, SRX , XTL or PBIRL will give you the capability to shoot much further.

Hello, what NV have you scully, ?  You can have to much I/R , called whiteout , if you only shooting short range set the front lens half way and use the dimmer, these are very good torches, mine is a red led, what type of I/R pil do you have, ??

Hi OPP. It’s a Wraith HD, 4-32x50 with a red LED.

I’m only shooting up to 100yds max’.

Yes, it’s the supplied torch. Everything is in focus and sharp as a pin in daytime mode.
Can’t recall what mag’ I had it in, but it won’t be high and I tend to leave things as they are once I’m happy, but will make sure it’s not too high when next out.
It’s on my .22rf, so ranges aren’t stupid.
Must admit I’m struggling to gauge ranges currently, as everything is new,  but that may be down to struggling in general. Managed to bag two rabbits last night but it wasn’t plain sailing.
I realise this is all new to me and it’s a learning curve, ( have many years experience of simply lamping bunnies) but it’s not easy to set things up while you’re actually out there at night, as I’m sure you’re aware.
Thanks for the help all. Will take all onboard. 👍

Just be aware that from daylight mode, into 'night mode' the focus changes slightly , youve probably noticed this, something to do with the way the two different light sources work.
But the supplied torch should be fine for bunny ranges.

Hi, that’s part of the problem when using digital night vision is judging distance, I ended up putting a range finder on my rifle which done the job the only drawback was was I ended up with a range finder  ir torch and the unit itself which made the rifle cumbersome.

I ended up buying a thermal spotter with a range finder on, if you have a mill.reticle you can judge the distance with that but that’s not always easy when your quarry is moving a about hope you get your problem sorted quickly most of the time it just takes a bit of tweaking

Question is also how far you want to shoot at night. Hmr is good for 150yds 223 is easily good out to two 200. If you can see it shoot it.  That's enough for around here. No need for a range finder. ?

Agreed, when using night vision, I had trouble telling the range no depth perception and using a Sollaris SRX made things worse because I could see a lot further which I like, because it means I can track the foxes in to a shootable distance also the ability to see a long way behind the target as well
