Just at dusk today we saw in silhouette what looked like 7/8 heron flying in a V. Definitely not geese (we get those regularly) because of trailing legs, wing shape, and Z head end so what else could it have been. They are a possibility Thought that but never seen any here, and those I have seen on the coast have been singular. We are right on (c 200m outside) the east edge of peak park. Could well be Cormorants , we see them last thing in the afternoons flying back from spending the day out at sea , these are in v formation and go and roost in the dead trees that are scattered around our local lake . They are a possibility That's what I was going to say, as they certainly do fly in a skein. Also, they are a lot more sociable that Grey Herons outside of the nesting season.
