Cranfield
I often take a personal radio with earplugs shooting and fishing, just to pleasantly pass away those slow moments. Now its finally become a victim of the damp and packed up ( I mourn the loss of £4.99. ). I was thinking of getting an i pod that had a FM radio in it and had a trawl round eBay. What is wrong with the Hong Kong i pods on there, that seem to be what I want and are going for .99p and free postage ? How much should I pay for a basic player with radio ? the hitman
I suppose its a chance you take with ebay , but at 99p and free postage its not much of a gamble , even if an empty box turns up. I suppose the seller is hoping 1000s of people will buy one. You could always try Argos , at least you can take it back.
Mungler
I bought an IPOD nano off ebay - seller with a good history and +300 of positive feedback. Anyways, somewhere in between him taking my money and not sending me the IPOD he was booted off ebay. Stuck a claim in with Paypal and got a refund in full yesterday. It seems that electronic items are the most iffy to buy (that and car mats). It seems that most will sell stuff they don't have on the basis that supply orders placed in China come good. Personally and for the money involved, get yourself down to Dixons.
Oly
I bought one of these a fews months ago and it's great (argos had it at £40 but can't find it on there now) - personal MP3 and DAB radio - I couldn't find anything else close for the money, so thought I would give it a whirl...and if it breaks it goes back for a better model. http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product...ios-_-position1 http://www.gadgetspeak.com/gadget/article....16/article.html
Hardy
I'm not sure if the dispute has yet been resolved, however there are issues with the formats that you can play on ipods/everyone elses MP3 players. Thanks to the cosy relationship (not) between Gates & Jobs Ipods wont play WMA files & non apple products won't play Itunes files. Personally I'd go for a cheap & cheerful non apple machine and rip my exsting CDs onto it - or at least thats what I've done for the missus. That way you still end up with a cd you can play in the car.
Oly
When I was looking I rapidly came to that opinon. IPods are great for looking cool, but aren't very adaptable or 'future proof'. I use mine as a memory stick too as I can stick all types of files on it.

Ipods can play MP3s, which is what most people want, they can't play WMA files but most people don't want them anyway. Apple's aac format is mostly not supported by anyone else, but you don't have to rip your stuff to that format, just use MP3, though for downloads from Apple you're stuck with it. I've ripped all my CDs to Apple lossless format and I stream it from my PC to an AppleTV that I have connected to my hi-fi and telly downstairs. It's a superb way of doing things. I can browse all my music remotely through the TV and the sound quality is identical to the original CD. When I'm ripping my CDs I rip them a second time to mp3 format for my Ipod. BSA Shaun
My advice is to find the model of player that you desire, then search the internet using Pricerunner or Kelkoo for the cheapest place to get that model Meanwhile I suggest this: For £30 Clicky clicky
Mungler
I bought an Ipod shuffle yesterday with "buy it now" and duly paid on the nose with Paypal. Got a message last night - they don't actually have what I want / bought. They offered me something else, I asked for a refund. As I said, trying to get a straight deal on electrical gear off ebay is a blinkin nightmare. Off to Argos today.

Electronic stuff and stuff from China has always been a nightmare on Ebay mate, best steered well clear of. Buy it from a shop, at least you can take it back and to be honest if its genuine you are not going to save that much on ebay as iPOD prices are determined by Apple and do not vary shop to shop as it were. humperdingle
I've got an ipod video 30Gb and the wife has an ipod too. They are well worth the extra money for the quality of build and reassurance of good after sales back-up. My ipod developed a wee problem after 11 months where it kept pausing. Reported it online to Apple, and had empty packaging sent to me within 2 days... picked up the next day, and had a BRAND NEW one 3 days after that! Can't beat that for service... I didn't even have to leave the house! Also the Apple Itunes software is very intuitive, and all the family can have ipods of their own and use the same file library... just drag and drop albums etc. Thumbs up for the ipod! (Have had various "cheap" Mp3 players over the past 3 years or so, and wouldn't buy another one.) By the way, the 99p + Free postage deal will most likely either be a scam to get your payment details, or a simple e-mail telling you some ridiculously stupid way of getting an ipod for cheap.
