tikkamark
I was out lamping with the scope light on tuesday night i went to a couple of fields overlooking the town its right beside a large maize field that a farmer i know owns he told me he spotted fourteen foxes leave the field from the harvester  It is right beside a wood that our pheasant pen is in so action had to be taken i plan to go in there over the next few weeks to thin them down a bit. There was two tractors ploughing the field when i went to check it out so i approached it from the grass fields overlooking it there very large sloping fields with horses in some of them so i had to be 100% happy with the bullet backstop to avoid any chance of harming the horses.I headed for the top of the field to call just as i was about to switch the caller on i spotted a flicker of an eye way down below me :yp: i attached the light to the scope and had a look...yep definitly a fox it was working its way up towards me along the hedge but there was no backstop in the hedge with horses in the field behind her there was no way i could risk the shot :( she walked right past me without a care in the world and crossed through the hedge i didnt follow her instead i went down to the bottom of the field and called for a while with no joy  i went where i thought she would have gone and low and behold there she was out feeding in another field but when i got down the bars of the gate were exactly in line with the fox i hopped the gate and went to a rise in the field and there was the fox lying down looking straight at me when i got down on the bipods all i could see was the foxes head from the nose upwards at about 120yrds so i got the X settled and squeezed and foxy dissapeared :o for a split second i thought i missed then i heard the thud of the bullet bullet hit just slightly left it was a fairly old vixen Mark

tikkamark
well done mate,a marty feldman fox Yeah the pressure caused the googley eyes and made a messy exit wound its a very humaine shot but id rather a chest shot but all i could see was the top half of the head and if i made a move further foward she was gone. When i got the fox back out of that field the eyes were back to normal interestingly enough. tikkamark
A well deserved shot and excellent bullet placement mark - well done to ya fella  Thanks paul and fellas :yp: On the subject of good shots this morning as i was eating the wheatabix i spotted a group of magpies out the back on our vegetable patch the rest of the clan were fast asleep what did i do continue eating the wheatabix and leave the magpies be or grab the hmr......you guessed it i has hardly going to let the chance pass i live in the middle of nowhere so the shot was safe and i had a lovely backstop so i settled the rifle on the window sill and settled the crosshair on one unfortunate magger just the second i had the trigger squeezed the magpie was about to take off and then the rifle fired the magpie dropped the little 17gr pill hit it straight in the head very very messy :( great start to the day :o Lazza i got up and changed position about 4 times and as luck woud have it every time a different part of the gate was in the way
