SuperGoose75
OK, this is probably an age old question,, however does anyone use these and what is their preference - 8 × 42 or 10 x 42 ? I will be using them for Bird Watching. I have a small pair of Bino's that I carry when fowling, but want a decent pair for birdwatching. Is there any advantage in the 10's over the 8's? I have read that the 10's can give a bit of a shaky vision when hand held. Thank's in advance.
Cawdor118
10x42 are way to wobbly for me. 8x42 is about the sweet spot.
London Best
Agreed, 8x42 all day.
JohnfromUK
Agree - 8x. 8x (in the same objective size of 42mm) have better; Field of view Twilight performance Steadiness Against that, 10x have slightly higher magnification, but I find that barely noticeable. martinj
I have 10 x 42's and do get a certain degree of wobble but can get over it with a firm grip, elbows tucked in etc. They bring the little brown jobs a bit closer but I'm not sure if they are any better than 8 x
Loki
Hi If at all possible try both sizes and see which work for you in the field........... My 10x42 havent been used from new (wanted higher magnification option) - too heavy, or more likely I have had and used 7x42's for far too long......focusing too slick/fine on the 10x42's (go past and have to come back)..... Mice!
I'd want to try both before buying new. But my 8 x 42s are a really nice size, and by far the best binoculars I've used or looked through.
