I often follow ditchies simple meals , I haven't got a cupboard full of bottles and jars of spice mainly because they don't agree with me , I buy fresh veg whenever I want them and most of my main meals are in trays or cartons , nothing wrong with that and cost wise I can have a decent meal for around £5 / 6 , mind you this is not the case if I pop down to the fish and chip shop . This was last nights tea and I had bread and butter pudding with custard for afters , but I ate that before I took a photo .

Hello, Looks good enough to eat MM 👍no seriously every time i read cooking posts i get the urge to go and buy something not eaten for a long time , Yesterday was lambs liver stew, today same but with if i can find , A bread and butter pudding👍

Good morning ... I am the same , I often have a look around the counters and buy something on the spur of the moment that I haven't had for a while , sometimes I enjoy and would buy again and then another meal I wouldn't be in a hurry to have it again , but that is mainly down to cooking and what you fancy at the time of eating, this was the bread and butter pudding I had last night and will finish the other half off tonight if I fancy it , Have a good day.    MM

It was a Poussin , slightly on the tough side but still ok , big enough for me for one meal and my dog had a similar meal with the leftovers .   Have a good day      MM

Can't beat a plain and simple dinner like that mm 😋 And just the right amount of gravy. Is that simple too or do you add flavour/herbs to it ?

Morning JKD , mind you it is only a few minutes left of the morning , I am getting the gravy down to a fine art , a 1/4 of a pint of boiling water , two teaspoons of gravy granules , one oxo cube and a drop of Sarsons Browning that my late wife bought , sometimes the gravy is the best part of my meal  , there yer go we are into the afternoon now , my the time go quick when you are enjoying yourself .    MM

Good afternoon mm 😆 That sounds quite a nice gravy,,,, I always add herbs and sometimes wine [white with chicken], as it's the gravy that gels it all together 😋

The White wine bit sound a bit posh to me and not being a drinking man the bottle of wine would be wasted , unless ditchie popped over for tea , I do a Pheasant or Partridge in a tin of Home pride White wine sauce and that isn't that bad as you can use some o the sauce instead of gravy .   MM

You could add the juice from the Chicken and use the water that you boiled the veg in to add flavour to your gravy, maybe even make a small trivet of carrots and onions around the chicken, costs pennies but adds massively to the gravy flavour.

THANKS for the tip , that sound well within my means and very little waste in the bargain as more than half the ingredients are all ready there . :good:

If you fancy "Tarting it up a bit" just add a bit of fresh Thyme and a slice of lemon to the trivet - tuck it under the Chicken and you should be delighted with the result.

in the spring john......go to yer local garden centre....by some decent pots or a grow bag....and plant it up with a few well know herbs ..and use them for cooking....

garuntee you will be blown away...

This cooking lark will soon be taking over my life at this rate , I have already posted two dinners and I haven't started on the Autumn menu  , still I have reframed from running down the chippie that often and only had one k f c takeaway over the last nine months , I  have also stabilised my weight after shedding a lot more than I wanted so I am making  progress , when it get a bit cooler the ole slow cooker will come into play with some fresh game casserole's , I did buy two nice Cauliflower's today from Meale's near Stalham, buy one and get one free , so I bought one White one and a Green Romanesco , both for £1.20 , a bargain .   MM
