Fil
Good old Avon and Somerset. There are 3 levels of security. It all depends on the number of guns, crime in the area, property type and if empty for long periods of time, etc. One of the key things is the phrase "substantial number of shotguns." Level 2 security, where there maybe a substantial number of shotguns says that an alarm can be considered . It doesn't say it is required. And what is a substantial number of shotguns? Sadly police forces can interpret the manual how they want. At least the 3 counties/forces surrounding me do. I have posted a link to the Firearms Security Handbook (if it's allowed) It will explain all and you can wave that at plod if necessary. It's a government official document that us and the police are to use as a guide. It's interesting reading. Hope it helps. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/firearms-security-handbook Edited October 17 by Fil word left out
DUNKS
Derbyshire. My son on his renewal was told " it would be nice if he thought about fitting an alarm system." No insistence at all

bluesj
I was asked to fit one of the wifi cameras on my last renewal, because of the number etc of firearms. I don't think that was over the top at all but full alarm system would have been a pain in the back side.
claydodger
Got the same problem in Yorkshire, got the alarm but still too many guns, made the decision to sell most.

How many is too many? I once had 24 mixed guns, pistols, rifles and shotguns. I was asked if I could reduce the number because they were not happy with me having that many, I said no and they went away. A few days later My wife called me while I was at work saying I had a telephone call from Firearms but they wouldn't say what they wanted. Apparently Firearms didn't know the business I had then was contracted to the Police and I was in the next room to them when the wife called so I walked into the Firearms office to question the reason for the call, apart from being quite astonished by my immediate presence the Licensing officer gave me an apology and said everything was OK . BobbyH
I don’t know if it was overkill, but for my personal home security and putting minds at ease, We have a ring door bell. And wifi cameras pointing to all potential entry points. I have less than 10 guns in my cabinet and my recent address change didn’t bring any questions about further security. I'm afraid I had a lot more than that at one time, so much so that I had to get more cabinets, It got to the stage where I realy needed an armoury and renewal days were a nightmare. I made the original decision to downsize and have a reached level which I thought was reasonable, however we now have these new security levels being brought in so I thought I would reduce my collection further rather than have more hassle and more security.
