They are making cars that they can't sell namely EV's, if they were any good they would be selling just like their ICE cars did very well.

Not buying is one thing but that does not mean they are not good vehicles.

If they were they would sell although it might be the 3 year 2/3 depreciation putting people off.  Will no doubt be reviews on You Tube.

Also I think the switch to new tech has been difficult for old companies with slow and intractable work force (German). Competition from new manufacturers less constrained is fierce (Korea). Dumping on the market by the Chinese. Govt changing the cut off point for ICE vehicles (Sunak). Incoherent policy on charging infrastructure.

but private sales….virtually zero.

I live in a 'rich' area (and no - I don't fit to type!) - but most families are older and have 2/3/4 cars.  There are now very many small electrics/hybrids about - the 'hers' cars being (ones I know the owner of at least vaguely) from MG, Tesla, VW, BMW, Mini, Mercedes, Jaguar, Toyota.

The oniy person who has had trouble has a Jaguar - and that has been off the road a lot - for months at a time.  No known complaints from the owners of the others.

Thats the kind of picture local to here. Electric is a no-brainer for a second car doing 4-5000 miles a year carting grandkids about and doing whatever the other half does.

Yes, they have a 'big' main car (Range/Land Rover, BMW, Mercedes, Audi and similar) which covers holidays and long journeys, towing the horsebox etc, and a small 'runabout' for the shops, school runs etc. We have no public transport at all and no pavements along narrow (and nowadays very busy) B roads make a walk to the shops (a mile +) unsuitable and unsafe - hence during the day we are crawling with small 'electrics' wirring about!

I would expect most to be privately leased.

Well if you can fill the tank for a tenner and do 250 miles it seems the logical way to go. No road tax, easy to drive, just a box on the wall to pay for. I'll keep the Disco for shooting etc so I think I'm almost there.

It depends on your individual conditions.  I spend around £700 a year on fuel for my diesel 4 x 4.  I 'need' that for around 1/3 of my annual mileage and would not be without it (I've owned a 4 x 4 for the last 40 years).  On that basis, adding a second vehicle (however cheap to run) would not be worthwhile.

But I can see how it works for other people with different usages.

I found the insurance on these ‘little run around electrics’ absolutely huge compared to a similar ICE.

it’s on another thread somewhere but the difference for me a year on a little electric VS a Ferrari was £200!
