Custom Lanber

The Lanber is a very under rated shotgun, I had the 12g Game model back in the 1980s and shot many 100s of cartridges and it is still going well after I sold it,   have just bought a cracking Lanber 20b off the forum, still to try , That looks a good job Bobby

I think that looks alright. In the absence of traditional blue or blacking it should do its job in keeping the barrels from rusting....and cost considerably less!

Thankyou, it’s not pretty, not original but it’s functional!

It is a very good gun, needs TLC, but for a free gun it’s worth it!

I purchased my Lanber from new 40 years ago and paid £299 from DJ Litts in Newport.

Out of the numerous shotguns I have, it is my go to shotgun and has 27.5” barrels and choked 1/4 and 1/2.

It has been faultless and well used and still going strong.

I did strip the woodwork a few years ago and it now has an oil finish.

Why’s it hilarious?

Because so many people get so hung up on quality of blueing, cabinet marks detracting from a guns value etc and you have just gone and painted yours with a rattle can, I think it is hilarious that it flies completely in the face of what are often fuddy duddy ways of thinking.

It's your gun you do what you like, as I said, well done you.

I’ll take that as a compliment towards my way of thinking!

It could be the same, maybe some shubtle differences.

The one I acquired had some rusty barrels, and dented stock,

Simon going to remove the finish, steam the stock and then paint it.

Because why not!

Hello, Let us know how it goes Bobby 👍     I was just trying to remember what I paid for my Game model or may have been a Sporter , At that time in the 1980s there was a Gun Shop in Wallingford , I tried a Chapuis ( French) O/U but that was fraught with problems so I bought the Lanber,

Send the barrels to Dan Bromley in Ashford kent, he'll do them proud. He is occasionally on here as Barrelblacker.

I have a set of bright red woodwork I sometimes put on to a Beretta, it annoys DTL shooters, puts them off apparently.

Dan's work is superb.

Quick question about my project,

Do you need to remove the oil/lacquer finish before steaming any dents out of the stock and fore end?

Only ask because the stock is going to be painted, and the lacquer finish will be redundant, and if I don’t need to remove it, I won’t

Hello, Have you thought to use a Paint stripper jelly type , Spread on and leave over night, I think some you can wash off, If it is Walnut the grain is fine,

if its a varnish/lacquer finish I would have thought all you need to-do is lightly key the surface before painting, the keyed varnish should act as a primer/base coat.

A question about dents in the stock, why try to raise them if its being painted?...why not just fill them with some car body filler?

Another suggestion is..if you mask the checkering it will stop it getting filled with paint, it will also still give some grip when shooting the gun, plus the contrast would look nice.
