We appreciate good service and help, but I have been known to decline the 15 % service charge because of bad service. I think the USA system is out of control, it's used by owners to employ staff cheaply and guilt trip customers into topping up wages. As for picking up a takeaway never tip. A lot of waiters and bar staff in Ameriica are not paid anything by the restaurant or bar. Also, in this country there was a story a while back about waiters in places like Pizza restaurants not getting tips and gratuities passed on to them. The restaurant just keep the lot

Yes, same here in Stamford, can't imagine paying for collecting your order.

A type of tipping that haven't been mentioned yet is tipping the keeper / person in charge at the end of of a day that didn't live up to expectations ? , this can be a tricky one as it is not always the keepers fault when things do go wrong , things like a deer or a fox running through a game cover just before the beaters arrive and the numbers can be well down but going by the number of shots counted the guns have had enough shooting to achieve the bag , we normally allow a minimum of 1 in 3 but we have had over 600 shots for a 150 bird day and in the game larder the birds hanging up can be under three figures , so is it all depending on numbers , how enjoyable the day have been , or both ? I went on a day three years ago where the bag should have been 130, but we only shot 80. The keeper came to the guns, said he was totally embarrassed and would not accept any tips. Furthermore, he said we should speak to his boss because, in his (keeper’s) opinion the estate owed the guns £2,000. The gun who did the organising spoke with the boss, who offered an immediate cash refund or next season a 150 bird day for the price of 100. We took the day offered. We still shoot on that estate three times a year and have never since failed to exceed the bag by a good margin.
