Piebob
There's a pro pest controller down the road who gets rid of the rabbits (can't remember how exactly but I think it's gas) then he blows up the warren . I guess some folk just want total, instant eradication, and are prepared to pay for it, rather than have it done FOC by a ferreter / shooter. ph5172
i read an article on the 'blowing up' of the rabbits basically the gas is pumped down the holes and as it is heavier than air expels it and sits in the warren it is then ignited collapsing the warren. as far as i was aware it was illegal to gas the rabbits using this method or to collapse the warren with it still inhabit.... ( i may be worong..and i probably am )
beatingisbest
Legally you can use gas to use on rabbits, then when you are sure that all occupants are dead then you can continue to collapse the burrows.

Very effective too. New ones come on to the market next year which will be a lot cheaper.
Bigbob
One of the farms i ferret got all the burrows gassed during the summer ,i couldn't believe it they where big deep sandy burrows if the guy had of being honest he would have told the farmer it wouldn't work .Gassing wont work in sand the gass disperces through it and theres maybe just 150 day a year you can use gas due to the weather conditions. All the burrows are opened up again and she wouldn't tell me what she paided the guy to clear her farm . Guest The Outlaw
I know of one chap that used to block up nearly all of the holes on the burrows and keep a few open for "draw" He would then pour a gallon of petrol down the burrow (it was cheaper then) wait for a few minutes and the light them up. He said if he did it at night his lurchers could see the rabbits easier. Flaming bunnies. Not an ideal way to do it but effective. Tony When i was a kid, we used this method on rats at the back of the pheasant rearing pens / feed store. We used to get a washing up liquid bottle, fill it with petrol ( good old 4*), then squirt a little down every hole, then wait a few minutes and light 1 hole. 3 or 4 of us would stand about 25 yards away with 12 bores and 410's and shoot the flaming rats as the came flying out of thier holes ( great fun, but dangerous now when i think back ). We did it one time and ran out of matches, by the time we came back to the rats nest after going to fetch matches from the underkeepers house the petrol must up seeped down in the ground quite a way and when we light it the sound of the flame bieng sucked down the hole was like that of a jet fighter taking off and a couple of seconds later an almighty bang went off and the whole nest blew up, with us getting covered in dirt, ****e and flaming rats
