Konor
Has anyone handled the beretta ultra leggero over and under. It has the kick off system in the stock similar to the A400 xtreme plus and the capacity to use shims to alter drop and cast.
HantsRob
It's a pretty gun, and very lightweight. For a day on the pigeons I'd find it a joy. For a day on 100% clays it gives quite the kick on a 28g load. I have no idea how long the plastic inserts will last. Fun gun and the kick off system will help, you need to balance kick vs weight

The ability to fit it regarding cast and drop and the fact it was multichoke and steel proofed was in its favour. I wondered how it would feel in use but have concluded that my 20 bore over and under and 16 bore side by side appeal more. If I was starting from scratch I’d definitely consider it as a one gun solution, maybe settle for 21g for clays if I found it knocking me about over a 100 bird casual clay day. Lloyd90
Having handled one of seemed very nice but I settled on using my 20b for walked up and similar rough shooting and have enjoyed it for that lovely. Standing on peg I am considering changing to a slightly heavier gun (sporter or even a 694 / Pro sport)…

My 20 bore o/u beretta is around 6lb 2oz light and no problems with even an ounce load on walked up where shots are fewer though I usually opt for a little lighter load. Interesting that we’ve come to the same conclusion albeit without me having handled the ultra leggero.

Produced by Beretta for the Orvis factory in Manchester Vermont. Bought in Glenluce.😀
Konor
That’s it there button It’s like a 20 bore onyx with fancy wood. I oil finished it and it has Manchester Vermont engraved on the receiver. I went on honeymoon there and when it turned up my wife bought it for me. 3 birds on the one mini drive on our wee shoot hence the need for a photograph barrelblacker on here did a great job on the barrels and lifted a dent in the rib at the same time. Konor
Of course button but I get on well with it and as my wife bought me it I can’t see me parting with it but should circumstances change, perhaps if she had an affair, I’ll be in touch 😂

Very nice gun, Sir. Amazing how a straight hand stock can make an O/U look like a real shotgun.😉

I hate to see a pistol grip on a shotgun, especially one with double triggers. Both my (SxS) .410 guns have half pistol hand stocks, and for me it really spoils them. It makes using the rear trigger awkward as well.

It gets on the birds fast for the type of rough shooting I do. It weighs I think 6lb 2oz and prior to it I regularly used guns just over the 7lb mark normally chambered for the three inch shell to double up for geese, so I thought it wouldn’t work out. Believe it or not it balances superbly like an old 20 bore Winchester model 12 with 25 inch full choke barrel I had and should never have parted with 3 rabbits a crow and a fox for 6 shots one morning and one went in the fox after I bowled it over at around ten yards. Konor
I’ve a Frederick Williams gun, pictures posted recently in the side by side section it has a very open semi pistol grip stock and is my favourite ,no problems with adjusting grip for the second shot in fact it’s so open i don’t think I move my hand on the second shot. 11 minutes ago, London Best said: Both my (SxS) .410 guns have half pistol hand stocks, and for me it really spoils them. London Best
My regular gun weighs 6lb 2oz but is a 12 bore, (H&H best sidelock). Used regularly with 28 gram loads and never more than 30 grams. I never feel it go off. My heaviest shotgun is a Spanish sidelock which weighs 6lb 12oz. Many would think it a lovely, light weight fast handling gun, but to me it feels like a plank edit: pics on P52 of SxS club thread. But I did do a dedicated .410 driven day last season. Both my .410’s are non-ejectors, so a real handicap for driven partridges. I have owned the Army & Navy hammerless since 1981 and have shot a lot of stuff with it, crows, pigeons, partridges, pheasants, grouse (1), rabbits, duck. Konor
In comparison to the HandH I’m not surprised. I was on a BASC coaching day a long time ago and shooting a Beretta 687 sporting over and under around 7lb 8oz that I shot well with. We were being instructed in a parallel mount Churchill style shot just relying on our eyes ,no conscious lining up just firing as the stock came into the shoulder. A fellow shooter was using a side lock side by side and offered me a few shots. What an experience the balance of the gun did all the work just gun and eyes after that my own Beretta felt like a plank. 4 minutes ago, London Best said: Not on a regular basis for driven game, no. I can see the attraction of a well balanced light gun. It’s much like comparing a four weight fly rod to a seven weight.

To be honest, the Ugartechea sidelock handles very well, it just feels heavy to me after the H.

I do think the ultra leggero is a pretty beast, and a fancy piece to boast on. The guy who I know owns it I think may have sold it, as even on a 50 bird round it would kick his bottom. Even with a 21g cart, I think 100+ may start to be a pain. Rough shooting would be awesome though. I wouldn't have it as a single gun to suit several situs though. 16 hours ago, Konor said: It’s like a 20 bore onyx with fancy wood. It is extremely beautiful. So far so good on the wood HantsRob,it does have quite a thick hand on it so perhaps that contributes to preventing any problems.
