Cranfield
We have a free range local turkey direct from the farm, which is not cheap, but nowhere near some of the silly prices being charged. This has been our Christmas dinner for the last four years and the taste of the bird is noticeably superior to other turkeys we have eaten. We also have a joint of beef available on the table. Our local Butchers are Graziers with their own slaughterhouse, so we buy no meat, or meat products, from the Supermarket.

Dunkield
We have a free range turkey farm near us that is one of Rick Steins food hero's, the realy do just run round a nice big field happy as larry util the big day! I hated turkey before I tasted a decent one and mrs stuartp's way of cooking it, not slow cooked until there is no moisture letf in it at all. I am now converted and look forward to Chistmas lunch rather than dreading it - but I do dread paying for the bird and the ham, but what the hell, it's only once a year. Cheers

Cheers My mother in law (NO I AM NOT BUILDING UP TO A OLD JOKE) cooks a big ham for Christmas in the slow cooker.(as well as the turkey etc) It is left on for days soaking in all sorts of nice stuff. It is EXCELLENT - melt in the mouth.

In Eastern Europe carp is what they eat at christmas instead of a turkey
