Dunkield
OK, so meet someone off the forum, or exchange PM's or whatever, and you find out their real name. Is it then OK to use their real name when you talk to them on the forum or not? There is no other reason for asking other than I have done this myself recently, and I have seen others do it too. Can people with forum names that are not their real names reply and let us know?
Spaniel
Hi I dont really have a problem with just using a First name. If People respond back to me saying Spaniel or Ian, I dont see a problem. I sometimes add my own name to replys, anyway But I wouldnt be to happy if anyone used my Full Name....you dont know who will be looking at this or any other web site. Cheers
sidibear
I don't mind people using my real name, either in pm or on the forum.
Hodmedod.one
I use my first name (might be un-PC to call it Christian name) to end posts on here sometimes. As long as no one includes a surname as well, I can't see a problem with it.
BSA Shaun
I think as long as the other member has no objections then fair play, but make sure they don't first
LEFTY478
It doesn't bother me if my first name is used. Full name, address, phone number and waist size would be annoying, though.
tulkyuk
I think first names are fine to use - makes it feel a more friendly place I personally dont care if my name is used as i could't give a flying **** if the anti's know how i am, as i am proud to be a hunter ( i presume this is what you mean about names bieng used on an open shooting/hunting forum Staurt). Cranfield
I think you should use the members username for all public Forum communications, unless you are given permission by the member to do otherwise. Its OK to use their real name in PMs or emails, as they are private. It must be assumed that if members wanted their real names used on a public access Forum, they would have them as their usernames. Axe
I have always considered that if a member openly displays his/her real name in a signature or in posts, it is accepted that I can address the member with it. Assuming of course, I know the member well enough to do so. I apply this also, to PM's and emails.

Guest rabgoat
for me i'd rather just use my real name for PM only,i think we'll always be a bit more security concious over here,it's a small world.

al4x
I can't see any issue with a first name being used. Surnames ought to be left out of things as you can be traced easily from it. I'd find it funny if someone had an issue with it really and lets face it if you have met the people in real life what are you going to call them. You'd certainly look a bit odd if you called them by their forum name all day

Ofcourse not all forum names roll of the tongue so easily, but in the main it worked. Forum names are basically nicknames.

Guest The Outlaw
I have a user name and sign my posts of with my shortened christian name. I can be contacted through the CPSA easily enough and I have posted my CPSA number on here. A bit of hunting about in the right places you can find out lots about me and Calamity Jane. We have nothing to hide and would help anyone. However if I know a forums users name and they dont use it I would use thier ID name because it is thier choice not to use thier real name. If I do let one slip it is by accident not on purpose. Tony

BrowningBoy
I'm not too worried if people use my first name, that's why I have it in my sig. If some one else did then I would probably use their name. If I get a PM from some one and it's got their name in then I wouldn't use that on the forum unless they revealed it first e.g got a PM earlier today from Spaniel and he signed off with his name so I replied to him using his name. He's now said he's open to being called Ian (and maybe that's his real name who knows ) so I might use it openly on the forum.

I like it, that's the way i think too. Biggest problem for someone else using a first name I don't know in a thread is trying to figure out who's talking to who! If folks don't use their real names in their own posts I'd generally stick to calling them by their site name, probably slipped on that a few times. I find I've an idea now about which members would be ok with it happening and which wouldn't. If in any doubt, just address them as Oi, you!
