May look at changing cars this year, up to £10K and needs to be 4x4.

will spend more time on the road as a daily driver than on the fields and tracks (so it needs to be comfortable), but it needs to be capable when required.

so what have you got and why, and what would you suggest?

landcruiser amazon

Toyota RAV4.

The missus has had three now. They NEVER go wrong.

Unless the clutch goes and then its cheaper to throw them out.

Should get yourself a nice nissan navara at that price. A proper car and a real 4x4 in one!

good little tools, but not all of them are 4 wheel drive, cant go wrong with anything jap really, shoguns are also very good, and drive real well on the road and have very impresive traction off road

If you are looking for a proper 4x4 then look no further than the Disco . The higher spec models ,es ,or gs .are the ones to have .Very comfertable inside with all the toys that a man can wish to have in a car .

Just sit in one and look around ,the disco has the best functional interior of any 4x4 . Ten grand will buy you a very nice td5 disco 2 . Harnser .

If I had 10k I would have a landy 90/defender TD5 no question.

As comfy 4x4's go have you considered a range rover? More leather than a herd of cows and more toys than Hamleys

I have a 54 plate Nissan Navarra loaded with extras that I could be tempted into parting with for serious offers pm to talk further

How serious is the off road? If mid range then I know good things about the Nissan X Trail- not bad off road, good fuel consumption on road. Severe off road Disco (not a very good rep for reliability in that price range) or Mitsubushi Pajero/Shogun.

With the bigger ones bank on no more than 25-28 mpg in real life.

I asked exactly this question about a year ago, and bought myself a Td5 Disco. I use it off-road every day for work and for shooting (and do a lot of road miles), and it has never put a foot wrong whilst I've owned it. In fact it's perfect for the job. It's a great troop carrier, it's almost unbeatable off-road with the right tyres and it's reliable. Very reliable.

So I'm with Harnser and Hewey and the other Disco drivers. With a Td5-Alive remap it's a very satisfying car to own.

Some of you have been very helpful.

some of you not so much :good:

Brand new Fiat panda

I like the look of the Navara/ Warrior sort of vehicles, the width of the disco puts me off because of my driveway.

wont be serious off roading, mainly just farm access/ track access i expect but obviously these can get cut up quite well in the winter! thanks for the suggestions, plenty to look at

We've a fleet of Freelander TD4s at work- bad news, rear sub frames go, front suspension goes, over the last year we've spent £6k! on one of them that's only 3 1/2 years old.

James takes a good look at the Nissan X Trail- well rated by the 4x4 mags. Good luck.

I've got a short wheel base Isuzu Trooper thats done 146,000 miles. Had it for nearly 2 years and it's never missed a beat, ultra reliable on and off road. Most 4X4 with the right tires will get you most places for shooting down lanes etc. Even the guy who said the Fiat Panda has a point, shooting times loved it and the Suzuki Jimny. My mates got the Nissan Navara and said it's rubbish off road unless there's loads of weight in it. Me I'd get a Toyota Landcruiser if i had the money, seriously good and loaded with gear.

So why has she had three?!?

Upgraded them everytime.

I have had a L200 Animal (horrible), I have also had a Shogun (expensive to run).
