Hubbertspeak
Forgive a newbie question, but how many shotgun cartridges are you allowed to store with a SGC? A mate of mine reckons that cartidge prices will be going through the roof this year because of hikes in metal prices and I thought I could take the sting out by buying a decent load at comparatively cheaper prices, but how many are you allowed to store? duey
I don't believe that there is a limit, unless they get technical and calculate how much powder is in the combined amount of shells, as there is a limit on amount of powder you can store without having a special license do you have a fork lift and a big truck then Ian

It was a coupla thousand I had in mind, but if anyone near Canterbury thinks my mate's right and wants to get ahead of the game, I'm open to syndicate bulk buying. Hub. Suffolk shooter
I was under the impression that you could hold no more than 10,000 cartridges, anymore than that and you then have to register as an RFD. SS

taz24
I was interviewed just recently. My friendly firearms officer was quite adament and my wife will vouch for me. He said I could have upto the equiverlant of 25kg of propelent, which in his words was equiverlent to about 176000. He stated that I did not need a licence to hold them also. He was very effiecient and left me in no doubt that if I stepped out of line he would remove my licence and possible fine / jail. He added that he had handed out six leters that week that revoked peoples liecences. So I'm in no doubt that it is 176000 cartridges. Cheers taz. Big_Sam
I think 10,000 seems a decent figure. Afterall, as soon as you buy you 10,000 they are sure to bring out a new better version

palombier
This is how i understand it. If you store only small arms ammunition(i.e shotgun cartridges) you may store up to 15 Kg of the net explosive content of those cartridges. You will then have to work out the amount of grains of powder in each cartridge, work out how many grains in a pound etc. etc. If you store over that amount you must register with the Local Authority(not the police if you are only storing ammunition). Once you have registered you may store up to 250kg net explosive content. If you want to store more than that you are then in the realms of separation distances. LEFTY478
I bought 11,000 carts in one go last year from CCI, with no problem and I'd made it quite clear that they were all destined for my garage. Limiting factors may include: 1. COSHH and/or HAZMAT regs 2. Domestic Insurance cover Any firemen on here may have a better idea as to what's what?
