Hewey
Hi All, As many of you have already mentioned lately the fact that RC SIPE's are yellow as well as their 20g T3's I am starting to think that although I am very careful you only need one mistake and that could be that. I would be looking for a good hard hitting fast 32g load in 6's. Still want to use the RC's really as I've had nothing but good results from them over the past few years but don't fancy exploding the barrells on my gun or anything worse for that matter. Never have liked Eley, Hull or Rottweil. Price must be semi-sensible up to around the £200 mark. Any advise would be appreciated. Baldrick
Don't discount Rottweil altogether, Hewey. I use Rottweil 30g 6s for almost everything. They hit very hard, yet are much softer-recoiling than Eley and Gamebore. They were also dirt cheap - £160 per thousand. Leech & Son in Boreham was doing them cheap before Christmas. Guest Mr Pieman
Lyalvale Express Supreme Game come in 32g 6's. I throw them at everything - pheasants, rabbits, pigeons etc - and they are very smooth. Cost around £205 per 1000.
MC
Another vote for Supreme Game, or a cheaper option is Express Special Game. I used some Hull 3 Crowns on a beaters day recently and they are good.

Baldrick did I hear you say £160 a thousand dirt cheap !!!!!! What short memories we have :o
Hewey
Hi All, Thanks for all your info, I will buy a few boxes and try some. SamF, the RC Caccia 32g, do you know what the difference is between those and the SIPE's.? Cheers
Troosers Too
Hewey, I had the same concern with the Sipes so this season I've been using the Sipe 32gram fibre wad 5s as they've got a silver case and they've been excellent. Well worth a try if the price is right. Cheers TT
dodeer
Caccia is 50fps slower and much gentler on the shoulder. All i use now for pigeons and pheasants. Edited February 13, 2008 by sam f
Baldrick
Sadly, Anser, I reckon £160 per thousand is pretty cheap now. I used to buy cartridges for my 20-bores at £100 per thousand. It's more than double that now.

Really hard hitting and soft on the shoulder, I paid £50.50p for 250 which is a little steep for a pigeon cartridge, but there we go..........price of lead,...............cost of fuel............delivery........Oh don't get me started!!!! Hewey
Cheers, Must admit never really used Fibre Wads, yes I know the plastic's aren't environmentally friendly but I've always been under the impression that the Plastic Wads throw a better pattern. Will put them on the list as another to try.
Ferret Master
Tests done by the BASC show that modern fibre wads actually throw a better pattern than plastic. FM
alexm
Tests done by the BASC show that modern fibre wads actually throw a better pattern than plastic. FM What has changed in modern fibre wads though? I always thought the reason for inferior patterns with fibre wads (in theory at least!) was due to the outer pellets being in contact with the barrel on the way up, causing them to either jostle against their neighbours, or to become deformed by scraping and ultimately become fliers? This must still be the case with all fibre wads that I've seen? The other problem for me with fibre wads is noticeably more lead streaking in the forcing cones and chokes. Not only is this a pain to clean, but it proves the pellets are sustaining at least some damage on the way out. That said, when you compare the patterns they throw, they have never been that bad when compared to plastic wad. The difference has only ever been marginal in my opinion. Ferret Master
I shall try and dig out the article. I think it was published in their magazine just over a year ago. FM
hyflier
It seems alexm, you've done a lot of research into this. I use fibre wad (not for the environment ) but because I think the cartridge opens out fully allowing the chokes to do their job. The plastic wad cartridges always appear constricted after firing and I often wonder if it affects the wad as it leaves the barrel. I've had huge success with fibre wad cartridges and will stick to them. I do firmly believe though, if the cartridge has the velocity to strike the target with the "lead" you judge to be correct, then that cartridge is ideal for you. My favourites are Hull pro Fibre for clays, and Express Pigeon Special for game
