How did we get on

Met up with MArkio for a couple of rounds of sporting yesterday aat my local gun club. The wind was quite blustry and being at the highest point in Suffolk and being an airbase meant it was causing clays to hop and drop all over the place.

We had two rounds of fifty and both managed 30 ex 50 the first time with one particular stand causing problems. Stand 3 had a O/R pair with the first being a going away like the clappers edge on target which curled with the wind. and meant if you left it too long (I did every time) you missed behind and over the top.

Second round Markio scored 32 ex 50 struggling on the driven midi, whilst I scored 37 ex 50 struggling on stand three again. We both straighted the same stand a deceptive first bird looping over a 20 foot high concrete blast wall that stood to the left of the cage and curled with the wind once up, followed by an incomer which really was as big as a dinner plate, but demanded respect as the wind moved it left, right, up and down on route and was easily missed as I did it the first time round.

Good day out for relaxing clays, made all the more testing with the wind.

Was a good layout, very enjoyable, except for that driven, why did i find that so difficult?!? It was annoying as i hit that one 2 or 3 times the first round! You shot a very good second round, a very respectable percentage. :good:

Anyway, thanks for the invite and a good afternoon, and not a forfeit in sight, although the offer of 'coffee' afterwards did unnerve me somewhat .

I had another result this morning shooting at the Bell PH clay shoot, I won the final knockout round and also my class trophy with a score of 39/50 on a layout that I struggled to get to grips with missing a couple of rabbits, couple of battues and one dolly driven.

Also a few others that I won't mention as I was disgraced with myself for miising them but it seemed that everyone else was struggling as well, the nearest to me was my friendly rival Trevor on 35.

So I picked up 2 trophies and a nice voucher for the local gunshop :good:

I also shot the Colchester Gun Club winter series on sunday and shot a respectable 19/25 on a compact layout, and they had some good bacon rolls this week.

I helped set this shoot up and put on a nice long crosser about 35 yards out and a blaze clay against the trees, and failed to connect with any of them :good::lol:

Shot JJs today with Mr Digweed, LV, Broken Man, Evil, Russ and Dave. They've made it a bit more testing lately with some nice testing birds. Some very close scores with only a couple of clays separating the top three scores - and the one time he didn't take it LV didn't win 'the hat' :good:

Bazza - you won a trophy

Well, today was not even close to my performance at the same ground two weeks ago!

They had apparently set the course for a 94 ex 100, but the closest to that was a 92 ex 100 (and it wasn't me!).

Last outing I had an 85 ex 100 (exceptional by my standards) on a course built for a 95 ex 100 I believe, but today I could only manage a rather unfortunate 70 ex 100 :good:

There were a few exceptional circumstances to take into account, which I will not go into, as at the end of the day, my score was what it was, and I was the only one that could have changed it, exceptional circumstances or not!

what i want to know is why do grounds setup for a score of 94/95 out of 100?

mr B or C class shooter turns up shoots 82, thinks he is brill then ends up in AA.

it would make more sence to me if the winning score was set to be 88/90 area, then least everyone would probably be shooting to there average.

I suppose the trouble with setting a fairly easy course is that everyone will score high, and setting a difficult course will put of the average B or C class shot as it will dent their average.

How can you possibly know what the winning score will be.

I set up a compact layout on saturday for one of my local clubs and the 3 highest scores were 24, 21 and 19 (mine) and the lowest was 6. Yet today I shot what I thought to be a good challenging layout and took high gun on 39/50 and the people I expected to get 40 plus were nowhere near.

If a reasonably easy course is set and someone along the Faulds/Digweed line show up then noone else will get a look in, yet make it hard for someone of that stamp and it is nigh on impossible for the average club shooter which is what the sport relies on.

It is hard to set a layout without someone either moaning they are too easy or moaning because they are too hard.

Surely a one off score for a B class shot of 82 would not automatically promte them to AA? As I am not a CPSA member I do not know how they work out the averages/claases. I know in the rifle shooting I do the Averages are calculated over 6 consecutive cards.

Answer is who cares, as long as you find it testing enough without being too hard or too easy then its a good corse. Corse setter trys to set out gimme targets, testing ones and then difficult to ensure that targets will be dropped to allow an outright winner.

Bloody CPSA, what a waste of time the class system is, up down like a bloody yo-yo waste of time and money.

:D Well......... I had to get up at 05:00 to run Lisa's Mum and Dad to Gatwick, arrived back at 7am, went out with the ruimmy and shottie to look for a fox thats bugging the sheep again, no signs, guns back in car, went to next permision, the only rabbit I saw i nearly ran over, magpies all over the place, took 2 out on the ground, very satisfying "poof" of feathers, large holes in them...ehehehhe.

Then drove to jj's on my own, and I suspect due to being wide awake and alert had a great round!!!!!, Kicking myself that I messed up one stand or i could have won the day...1 clay separating me and Bagsey!!! I overheard Matt saying:" Glad he drove himself otherwise we'd hear about this one all the way home!!!!!" <_<:good::yes::hmm:

Even managed to hit 5 out of 6 orange ones on one stand!!!!!!:oops::yes:

So using statistics prepared using the SS / EE method I WON as I am better looking and slimmer than Mung, my name begins with "M" and today is a Saturday - hard luck Mung old fruit ! I will get my man to fetch you a tissue

There was no hat awarded today. EE can wear it at Copfurn tomorrow instead !!
