I was somewhat expecting a comprehensive explanation in defence of your peculiar perverse admission.

not just 'mud flinging'. :blush:

 

Still, can't say that I've noticed them personally, although I do try not to look! (But now you've brought it up!)

I stopped smoking over a year ago, I have never been more unwell or as short of breath. After over 12 months I am just beginning to come out the other side, doing lots of cyclin, as well as all the shooting and stalking/ Speaking of which, I have shot more deer sinc I stopped, maybe they cant smell me as easily as when I smoked. Oh, a message for all you smokers, YOU STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well our lass is thicker than yours, not only do I tell her she stinks, she snores like a wild boar, and sits in the romm, complete with 2 radiators, saying how cold it is, then goes and stands OUTSIDE for a fag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The mind boggles the hopeles nicotine addict

Lefty, I've been of the fags for just over 2 months now and it is great -even though I do get the odd pang now and again. I'd tried everything apart from hypnotism but no luck. I'm now using Champix tablets from my doc (I'm diabetic so its best not to smoke!) and these tablets are the mutts nuts. They don't work for everyone though as some folks experience wierd side effects that they can't handle. I've had a wee bit of most side effects they can kick off but none that have been a problem. One good side effect is the very vivid dreams I'm having :good: Gawd - never mind the viagra :blink: Seriously though, they are good becasue they don't replace the nicotine or the tar - they switch off the receptors that crave them. You start of on a half mg morning and night whilst continueing to smoke and then after 7 days step up to 1 mg morning and night if there are no drastic side effects. Between days 8 and 14 - you choose a day to stop and that's it. I didn't manage on my chosen day but did the day after. SInce then - no fags except for one day I tried one - and it was disgusting. Every smoker now stinks as far as I'm concerend and I try not to show it too much when in their company - but it is hard. When I think back to when I was a smoker and how folks who weren't must have viewed me...........

Ten days now and all's well. Went jogging a second time and it was a little easier, but this long weekend has blown the sensible eating and drinking out of the water. The 'Don't put them in your mouth' method has been very successful for the fags, but wholly inadequate for the cheese on toast and beer consumption.

Lefty, good effort mate, keep it up.

 

I went for a 5k run for the first time in god knows how long about a month ago. Knackered me completely and I wasn't able to run again until last week - took it easy and only run about half a mile this time. Hadn't realised I had gotten old :lol:

 

Back to basics for me!!

Bagsy - you're still the size of a racing snake! :lol: Unlike me - very much built for comfort. :lol:

 

You're right about the 'back to basics'. Long slow distance work to increase the stamina, then start to squeeze the pace to work the CV. I know how to get fit, I just not sure I want to go through the pain, again... :lol:

Lefty I take it you used to be in the Mob? BFT :good:

 

I think its alot easier when your in the mob to keep fit as its the general thing thats done going to the gym most days etc, but as you have posted 4 days off now. I assume your a civvi now and not so lucky to be able to go to the gym pretty much as & when. You will get there again buddy just build up to it slowly, I layed off the running for some time and then started again recently and had a shock. After a bit of conditioning had it back to 9 Mins for a mile & a half. Which for my age. (Youngster) 26 Isnt bad.

 

Must admit running isnt my strong point though never really liked running.

 

I was running 8:40 BFTs (BPFs) when I was in the Forces, but as an idle civvy, I would struggle to do that distance in under 10 mins (and I would be blowing out of my arrse). But then I am built like a cuboid. On a BFT, most of it is about pushing yourself mentally for a short space of time - I saw some fatties put in some respectable times, having pushed themselves.

 

I find injury-prevention to be more of a concern than motivation now, having a history of stress fractures and Achilles problems. The legacy of Silver Shadows....

When im training I will run for miles across fields and down the river footpaths, what always makes me grin is obese people running along the road in what looks like a superhero costume! Whats that all about?

I can understand wanting to stay cool over a long distance but these guys look like they are going to collapse on the next step gripping their chest!

I drove past a couple of women running down the road the other day, they had literally just set out from about 100 yards back, I forgot to put something in the car so I turned round about a mile past where I saw them, sure enough 3 minutes later one was bent over holding her knees trying to catch her breath and the other was sucking on a bottle of water like a calf on a ***!

One thing is definate if you are obese going out running isnt going to do you much good apart from give you a heart attack, lose weight first by walking
