Just a bit of a post to get it off my chest really. My springer is now 13Yrs old and has been diagnosed with pneumonia last month and has been put onto tablets to help his aching bones. He still gets walked every day but last night he collapsed again and his eyes are shaking from side to side all the time now. his co-ordination isn't great and he has been sick a few times overnight. :sly:

The last time we took him up to the vets when they diagnosed him we thought that was the end but then after a jab and some anti biotics he was ok again. Not sure what to do now. My mum has just rang to say his condition hasn't changed overnight and she just rang the vet's today (BANK HOLIDAY) and they want £75 + treatment to see him today!!!!

Don't want him suffering but also hate bending over a barrel for the vet :good: Hoping he will return to normal again and last a bit longer, But I do realise he is old for a springer and maybe close to the end.

Had him since I was 13 he is my best mate..

£75 is a small price to pay if he has rewarded you over the years .but if it is £75 to boost him back to health every few weeks sometimes its cruel to be kind no point prolonging his pain and yours.goodluck hope he will be fine been here a few times myself .

Cheers for the kind words guy's just got back a minute ago. The vet was brilliant and re-assuring to know he has been seen. His glands are very swollen and she said for the minute we will just give him 3 jabs, 1 to stop him being disorientated and the others were anti biotics. cleaned his ears out too which was quite distressing to watch as he was clearly in discomfort. but they needed a good hook out. Overall very pleased with the vets they want to see him again tomorrow morning for further examination and maybe an X-Ray.

If these drugs dont sort him out she said to expect the worse. Just hope this sorts him out.. cheers for the support guys.

Sorry to hear about your dog triscrx .

I do know what you are going through as i just had to have my Lurcher put to sleep after a short illness followed by a stroke.... big old boy he was, 7 1/2 stone running machine.... he was a rescue dog about a year old when we got him and we had him 12 years... lovely family pet and companion.

We had to have the vet make house calls as i had just broken my ribs and couldn't carry him or lift him in or out the car, three visits at around £100 each plus the medications plus the final injection ... well over £600 in 5 days..... but i'd have spent three times that if he could still be with me now.

It's a tough one mate , hope it all works out well.........

Dave

Ask your vet if it's possible the dog has had a stroke, from the symptoms you describe-collapsing, eye movement and lack of co-ordination this could point towards a stroke. I had the same thing a few years ago with my old springer bitch.Hope it all goes well for you .

Rick.
