Chess
Saw first one of the year yesterday; Looked after a swift last year that had a damaged wing, funny little thing and had tiny feet with all the toes pointing same way. Dont need feet as such as they spend all year on the wing virtually.

kernel gadaffi
Just checked my diaries for the last few years, 2007 first swallow seen on 15/4, 2006 16/4, 2005 14/4, 2004 15/4, so it seems they always arrive within a day or two of the previous year, I normally hear them before I see them, its a distinctive chirp. Ferret Master
Not seen any yet. Keeping my eyes open though. The swifts are always later than the swallows. FM

anser2
The first swallow type birds to arrive are usualy sand martins. I have not seen any this year yet and spring migrants seem very slow , but with last weeks snow thats not surprising. A few chiffchaffs arriving now in Norfolk and they are about 10 days later than average.
