arjimlad
No - when I shoot pigeons on non arable land it is because they are proven to be a pest on arable land and the only effective way of protecting the crops is to shoot them - thus diminishing their numbers ? mr smith
I'm a lazy sod so lifted this from the- BASC GENERAL LICENCES FOR THE CONTROL OF CERTAIN BIRD SPECIES IN SCOTLAND When roost shooting you are targeting birds that routinely damage crops in the area but who are distributed over such a large area that is ineffective and impractical to shoot them on site or employ non-lethal methods

JRDS
There are no crops in my area for miles and miles, just Sheep and Dairy / Beef cattle farming hence my question. The terms of the Licence seem to me to leave anyone wide open to me if the authorities wanted to make things awkward?
henry d
.....and all those animals eat clover etc. which is sown for feed and therefore they are eating animal feed. I saw more woodpigeon today on grass/clover/chickweed than on rape or spring drillings(which are just starting here BTW).
CharlieT
Grass is a valuable crop for livestock farmers,it is grown from seed and when fields are resown in rotation the pigeon eat the seed and the only way to keep them off is by shooting.
