An Evenings stalking

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

Dead eye duck and yts trainee and i were out last night. An evenings stalking is in order.The three of arrive in wales for 1830 and decide to split up. Once areas have been chosen and safe routes and safe directions of fire discussed away we went.

My area was a block of 6 fields that would take me the best part of 2hrs to stalk. So with the wind in my favour i hadn't gone far before bunny No1 sat still for a little too long and was my first addition to the bag at 60yds.I very slowly made a circuitous route of my block of fields picking up 1's and 2's as i went round slowly building a decent bag at ranges from 30-70yds. By the time i had got back to my starting point i had 7 in the bag. i paunched the slain as i waited for the last of the light to go, and as i finshed the job a dark shape hopped out from the gloom. It was one of the black rabbits we often see on this part of the shoot and seeing as we run a racially unbiased bag WINSTON was duly added to it from 50ish yards range to give me 8. Dead eye duck soon arrived with his paltry addition of 4 to the bag and yts had fared a little better with 7 to give us 19 between us.

After a restorative cup of hot chocolate and a blackcurrant pie we decided to lamp a problem area that regularly needs our attention (chuffin bunnies everywhere). YTS lamped for me, dead eye duck has found his true calling in life and carried the bag for me to fill with rabbits, as usual putting all the pressure for success on your humble scribe. A modest man would say i did very well, a generous man would say they had witnessed man and rifle operating as one........ i will simply say i was on form indeed. A particularly good 70yd headshot to start with drew a gasp of admiration from aged companion along with the phrase that was the luckiest shot he had ever seen (which is don speak for chuffin' well done) i always find it amazing as i am sure the pigeonwatch faithful do that the more practice i do THE LUCKIER I GET :rolleyes::lol: . That set the scene for the next 7 bunnies to follow all clean headshots at ranges from 40 - 70yds including 2 taken at 40yds kneeling. Well with Don groaning and complaining constantly under the weight of 8 bunnies in the bag we called it a night with 27 in the bag. Not a red letter day but one our best scores for a while.

Thanks for reading.

Here we goes again :rolleyes::lol:

Gonna was given the best area by far, and shoots a miserable 7 rabbits with my Annie hmr that can knock the flies off a cowpat at 100 yards. Yts also had a decent patch and did very well for a relative newcomer.

I had the **** patch and worked hard for my 4, walking a couple of miles in the process.

Later on Gonna used my Sako Varmint rimmy that you have to work hard to miss with, and with yts making it easy by excellent lamping, and me carrying the slain to take the pressure off the shooter, all he shot was a further 8.

He must get down on his knees every night and say "Thank you God that I have a couple of mates that work their knackers off to make me look like a half-decent shooter".

Well, I suppose that he did all right really......... he did have the best patch and the best gun

Yes, he is a fat ***.

Th'only thing fatter is his bone idle, leaning, sleeping, non-pedigree labragator.
