MM
here you go. just changed some of the bits, but left the main stuff in. Dear Sir / Madam Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, I would like to firstly introduce myself to you. I am a 31yr old responsible professional. I live in Hull and as I stated above work in Lincolnshire, I am a keen air gunner and along with my son, shoot on privately owned land by day and night over a weekend at some of the suppliers who grow for the business I work for, living in Hull I am looking to seek written permission from farmers, golf clubs and water sport clubs such as yourself to allow me to continue enjoying my hobby and sport more locally, again mainly on a weekend and sometimes by night, week end night time for golf clubs and water sport clubs (when no one else is there, for the obvious reasons) I am a member of the British Air Gunners Association and have their liability insurance, as I stated earlier I am responsible and will respect your land, greens, property and your wishes. I would like to shoot only vermin and will remove any dead quarry from your land. Whilst on your property I would be glad to let you know if I notice anything unusual or untoward. I enclose a stamped addressed envelope and a pre-prepared shooting permission form for you to complete and kindly return to me. The form details your permission and the type of quarry you consent to me shooting on your land, with a section detailing your preferred contact number. Again I ask you consider my request that allows me to enjoy my hobby and at the same time help you in your control of vermin. I hope you do consider giving me permission but if you find yourself unable to, would you also consider returning the form to me with "NO" written across it, I will know then not to approach you again. If you do kindly decide to grant me permission to shoot your land and you have any drawings or details of your boundaries these would be very useful. Thank you for your time and I possibly look forward to meeting you some time in the future. Sample Shooting Permision Form............. bob300w
You left out Pheasant, partridge and deer in the Quarry section, but otherwise a nice letter. I shew it to a farmer friend lunch-time and asked for his comment, at first he said "I'd rather have him than you on my land", but then agreed that the letter covered all points, it's polite and informative. His only criticism was that he would have liked to have seen how much the public liability covered. And no, I'm not going to tell you where he farms! Those farms that did not reply, have you thought of following the letters up with a visit?

MM
yeah, i might go and see them and be polite as poss. i left some stuff out bob as i dont feel that my springer would be enough for bigger birds (cue fat woman joke ) but in the future you never know what rifle i might end up with. been reading the website, and this place sells all kinds of stuff. might be able to shop for veg whilst im there. made up Carlos posted the link for the letter, as articulate as i might be, i wouldnt have known how much detail to go into. as soon as i know ( if he says yes) the area, as i put in the letter, ill be taking my son with me, as even he moans about the price of frozen rabbits these days

MM
well, just got back from visiting the farmer. what a pleasant chap! showed me around the farm, and then around the boundrys. he asked me a load of questions, and i thought rather thanand BS myself into him letting me shoot, ill be as open and honest as poss. answered all his questions (to which there was many) and when he got me to the top field, he told me the combinations to the padlocks so i can bring my car right in in case it rains this was going too well. it felt like i was taking my driving test all over again. after an hour of showing me around and where i can shoot..........." what do you think? are you interested?" he said he had loads of people asking to shoot on his land, but the reason he phoned me was the fact i had sent him a profesional looking letter, and it made a good impression mentioning cleaning up after myself and looking after the land. (cheers Carlos ) gave him the dup set of papers i had done, and he asked for a reference. gave him my boss number, and he said he would phone him on monday to confirm that i wasnt a loon, and i could start next week. also realised that as this guy is a shotty holder, i know nothing about shooting compared to a farmer, so ill be very humble in what i do on his land and respect his every wish as ive a lot of learning to do really cant belive it now im starting on a case of the black stuff after passing my driving test for the second time. bob300w
You have learned one valuable lesson that some others would do well to note; Farmers are not simpletons who chew straw and spend their days ooh-arring whilst standing knee deep in pig ****. They are, or at least 99% of them, are well educated, intelligent and good businessmen, they have to be to survive in farming. Most of them, certainly in this area, are game shooters and attend pheasant shoots on a regular basis, they are fully aware of what a gun is. I would say that the majority of farmers, again, in this area, also own a 22rf rifle. A couple own full-bore rifles and shoot deer. All are very gun-wise. I meet and drink with farmers regularly, and some of the tales that they tell of people turning up , looking like urban warriors, with the attitude that they are doing the land-owner a favour, are hilarious. Now that you have your shoot, look after it, there are many out there that will be after it, and tales of those who have been conned out of their shoots are numerous. Oh, and congratulations on finally cracking it!
