Wingshooter from South Africa

Hi All,

Pretty good to have six newbies signing on so far today.

I am a little different in that I live in South Africa-awesome place if you are into "shootin, huntin, fishin" as they say in the USA.

My great great grandfather came out from England in the 1880's,with my great grandfather who was also born there. We come from farming stock near Collumpton in Devon.

I do a lot of rough shooting with my GSP,mainly francolin, guineafowl and wildfowl(will send a few pics of our birds in due course ) as well as pigeon shooting.I live in one of the meccas for pigeon shooting in South Africa.

Also shoot a couple of antelope every season and enjoy spearfishing and fishing from a sea kayak when I get to the coast.

I stumbled across this forum and was most impressed with the guns you have available in the UK.We are not as fortunate especially in the shotgun range and it is rather difficult to get licences these days and it takes an age.

Cheers

Craig

Thanks Chaps,

Taff when is the beer fest-October ?

Been threatening to visit my brother who lives in Woking,so maybe I could marry the two as we both want to squizz out the old family stomping ground.

My pics are to big to upload but I am working on it.

2shots, anytime as long as it is in Shooting season, usually May to August. Pigeons all year but the best shooting is over ripened sunflower -Feb to April

Hi all, thanks for the welcome and for reading my post.

Ferretman, I would think Lanzarote is closer to England than to South Africa-have a great holiday and dont forget the sunblock !

Stuart-biggest i have shot is a red Hartebeest will post a pic some time, never had a go at a kudu, a bit spenny for my budget.Did try about 3 years ago only saw a few cows.I've shot mainly Springbuck-great eating,Blesbuck, mountain Reedbuck-my favourite to stalk, and one common Reedbuck.

Hi Sandy,

Slap bang in the middle, Bloemfontein Free State Province.

Giuneas are not the easiest to shoot, especially in your more open country, they run as a flock and if they see you they hotfoot it,literally, out of there as fast as possible-if the cover is a bit thicker like in the Eastern Cape , they tend to sit a bit tighter before flushing.

If anyone is interested I will post an article on how they are hunted etc

Welcome to the forum, even though I hate you for getting loads more welcomes than me!

I'm in Scotland, which is only 76 miles from South Africa..........

Do you have to licence a shotgun in SA? Is it for one gun or a shed full? Tell us everything.
