Vermin Dropper
Hi All, I wanted to know if anyone uses or has used "Tracer" Cartridges? They are used when practising so that you can see where you are shooting when you miss. I only found out about them today and wondered what your thoughts were? lurcherboy
Bet u still miss VD LOL LB
jimdfish
VD They are very difficult to get hold of as they never got the incediary quite right and many clay grounds were set on fire during the drier months. Other than that they are very very cool Jim
Vermin Dropper
Jim, any idea where I might be able to pick some up? or who manufactures them?
jimdfish
No one mate until they sort out the phosphorous or whatever it is they use they are no longer being manufactured. Someone will probably prove me wrong. Jim
ernyha
JRU is on the case of 2 I have got left out of a box of 10. They were expensive and not very effective in sunlight. I wont be buying anymore as of the 8 I have fired 3 didn't light up anyway.
Cranfield
The ones I tried were very unreliable and expensive. In daylight they were completely useless. Even in the dark, the shooter often saw nothing different from the usual flash. Shooting a few clays with someone knowledgeable standing behind you, should put you right. Salopian
Vermin Dropper, I know of 2 manufacturers. Acetrace Cartridges Ltd Tru-Tracer Unit 10 Lexden Lodge Ind. Est., Kent Cartridges Jarvis Brook,Crowborough, Now Gamebore East Sussex. TN6 2EG Great Union ST., Hull Yes everyone is correct they are quite poor, you need someone looking from behind your shoulder to see the tracer which is a white light, like a sparkler or magnesium burning.Save your money and get a good instructor or experienced person to give you some guidance. Regards Salopian

the last engineer
if i may add my humble opinion,VD i dont think you need tracers, they will only take your eye off the target and look for the pretty lights ,get a friend who can shoot to watch you and identify your problem ,then work on fixing it. tracers were a novel waste of time and money IMHO, martin

Cranfield
Go and check out the photograph of red in the Members Gallery. I don't think "grooming", is a word you could use in connection with him. :(
Vermin Dropper
Just getting back to topic for a second.... It appears that people seem to have got it into their heads that I'm a **** shot, I'm not **** at all, (well...not that bad anyway :( ) I was just told about Tracers and wondered if they were any good for practise. berthaboo
which is a white light, like a sparkler or magnesium burning sorry but i will say it again there is no burning its just a silver disc that spins as it flys in the air later to night if i have still got some i will chop one up and post some pics
Cranfield
Obviously there are different types of tracer cartridges. :( In the ones I used (the two that worked ), it was almost as if the individual shot was lit up. I'm sure if you had one of those very fast cameras , you could have taken a picture and counted the shot. Very similar to firing up a very dusty track, when the stringing of the shot becomes very apparent.

Salopian
Pardon me if I have missed something, did I not say that it is better to have an experienced coach looking over your shoulder to assess where you are shooting?I also gave a description of the visual effects ( like a white light, or magnesium burning)I have 60 of them in stock from 3 different manufacturers and none of them have silver discs inside.I would not advise anyone to use them for fault diagnosis for themselves.I repeat you need an experienced person to tell you where you are placing the pattern in relationship to the target.Salopian

Methinks he doth protest to much. Its allright VD. We cant all be good shots. We need the bad un's to make us mediocre shots look good. Think of it not as being a bad shot, but doing the rest of us a favour. Jim
