V8landy
On question 14 it asks about convictions and refering to the notes on the back these include motoring offences. Back in about 1999 (they do not even show on my driving licence now) I got 3 points for doing about 33mph in a 30! Do I need to mention this? mattslaptop247
its best to be honest, then tey've got nothin on ya
V8landy
I was going to add it, just wanted to check. Better them to laugh at me putting down an SP30 from 1999, than for them to check on the PC and go NO.
drut
Tell them all no matter how minor : they already know! Seems more of an honesty check (or farce depending on your viewpoint) than anything else.
Markio
Tell them all no matter how minor : they already know! Seems more of an honesty check (or farce depending on your viewpoint) than anything else. Exactly. When my FEO came round he had details of vandalism to my car that i had reported (i was at a different address at the time too). Just goes to show, they can and will look into your police history. Which is no bad thing. As you say, no harm in putting it in.
roadkill
its just a test to see how honest you are as they know everything any way
V8landy
Its not a question of not being honest, it was just given it is not on my licence. But they do not state any period of time that offences are not valid. Anyway, it WILL be going on my application. Thanks ALL

MJN
On your first application you have to declare everything including sp30's no matter how old, after that only anything that is new since the last SGC was issued. V8landy
Like I said I think it was 1999, no idea even of the month. Am I OK just putting "SP30 3 points £60 fine, approximatley 1999" Or does it look bad that I can not give the exact date?
MJN
V8landy, yep just the fact you mentioned it is good enough exact date not required if you can't remember it. M. Edited September 5, 2008 by MGMan
Imperfection
Oh cr*p. I applied for my SGC on monday and completely forgot about a couple of driving offences i got 22 years ago until now. When i read the conviction bit on application form,i never even gave my old offences a second thought because i assumed it was for criminal convictions which im absolutely clean.I hope this hasnt hindered my application at all. While it's worth declaring everything i find it hard to believe you'll be turned down flat for a SGC because you didn't declare an SP30. Seems a bit harsh. V8landy
Imperfection, I am sure everthing will be fine with your application. I know people who have got SGC with more than a speeding ticket. But if I where you I would still phone up anyway.

Imperfection
Mine wasnt for speeding-it was much more laughable when i think about it.When i was 16 in 1986 and a moped rider-i got stopped for having only having one learner plate which resulted in first 2 points. When i turned 17,i got a car to learn to drive in while being supervised by a friend, went through a carwash, got stopped minutes after and received another ticket with the obligatory 2 points for having only one L plate cos it'd been ripped off by the twirly brushes which i hadnt noticed. I did however crash this car when i was 17 and still a learner back in 1987 and got four points for undue care which i admit to being entirely my fault which brought my total upto eight.Im 38 now and havent honestly thought about my early days of motoring until last night while reading this thread cause my driving licence has been clean for last 21 years with not even a pull. I'll try ringing the firearms department this morning to see if anyone works on a saturday, but if not it'll have to be monday.I really hope they can atleast achknowledge this as being a genuine mistake cos i never set out to deceive them. Chard
I agree it's best to come clean, even on silly stuff. A mate of mine applied and got granted an SGC, but he also got a letter mentioning a couple of incidents in his past (which had not resulted in convictions). Him and his wife drink excessively (in my opinion) and there were a couple of incidents where they had been rowing loudly and publicly and plod were notified. No action was taken, but they had all this stuff on record and expressed their concerns in the letter. It basically said any more of that and we'll revoke this license I saw this letter and I knew of the incidents. No convictions, just a suggestion that they calm down and moderate their drinking Edited September 6, 2008 by Chard

Anyway-sorry for hijacking your thread Landy V8.
V8landy
No problem at all. I hope it helps others, and I am sure you will be fine. I handed mine application in to my local police station today. She had a quick glance over it and said it all looked OK. I did point out about my SP30 and she said it was not realy important, so once again I am sure you will be fine.
