Poacher
I've just landed a new job in central london and need a place to rent so just seeing if anyone has/or knows of somewhere. Preferably as close to central as possible, need to get to picadilly circus or green park tube. Looking for a 1bed flat or studio or willing to share with other young professionals.....Thanks
Billett
Depends how much you’re looking to spend? Central will cost you a fair bit, otherwise you want to look at the satellite towns outside, people who rent near me spend about £300 a month for a flat, and travel in by train. Only a 30 min journey, but as i say depends on budget
malkiserow
I have an office in London (some noisy soldiers mid monday morning are a bit loud with their music!!) and travel from Coventry..... not too bad but I tend to spend much time away (Edinburgh last week) so avoided living closer.... good luck. Next year it will be 45 minutes to london from here!!!! yipeeee

Dr W
Loot is always a good place to look, often many shared flats in there. Central London especially round there will be so expensive as you're getting into Mayfair, much better to look at somewhere down one of the tube lines that go into Green Park or Piccadilly. You've got Piccadilly, Jubilee, Victoria, and Bakerloo lines to choose from. I might go for Piccadilly which stops at both places for instance you could live near Ealing Common which is only in Zone 3 and quite a nice place with open spaces. I can give you my opinion of any other places you might want. Victoria is only 1 stop away on tube so could come into there as well.

Yep i've had a look at pimlico and bayswater seems pretty reasonable too, looked on gumtree but its full of scammers (send me first months rent + deposit and i'll post you the keys as i'm in africa at the moment)
Dr W
If you're looking to share then as I said Loot is good and this maybe a good way to start so you meet some people and can get advice about things i.e good places to eat, where to avoid etc etc and it's also cheaper but have to may be a pain to keep coming up to London to be interviewed by the housemates to see if you're suitable. If looking to rent a place on your own and don't people then you could try ringing estate agents in each area and they will have things that might be suitable although you may pay a bit more. I used to rent a place in Fulham when I first moved to London where the landlord's brother or someone would come round for the months rent in cash, not too dodgy then. Dr W
Really? Do you mean a lovely part of the world to get knifed or to score? All places have got some good things going for them and people love living there, however I really haven't anything good to say about Brixton or Tooting, actually used to go to a good club in Brixton but it got closed down. I like to live in a place where I don't have to always be looking over my shoulder when walking home at night or where I'm worried about my wife walking home from the tube at 5pm on a winters night and Brixton and Tooting are those places, not sure about Peckham but have heard similar things from others. lord_seagrave
Well, I used to live in Hackney (Shacklewell, just up from Dalston on the way to Stoke Newington) and I can say that I'm a lot happier walking through Peckham than I ever was there. Obviously, nothing can compare favourably to the leafy surroundings of East Dulwich, but one has to pass through Peckham in order to get there... Tel Time
why on gods earth would you want to live in that **** hole of a place? i have worked there, i have lived on the outskirts, i have had a family member murdered there, its a desperate place that turns decent people into savages that prey on each other, work there if you must but live out in the suburbs, Essex, Herts, Bucks etc, but live there? no way. I'm not saying I'd build a summerhouse on Rye Lane , but, as with every parish, you have to take the rough with the smooth. The conservation areas, full of well-preserved Victorian and Georgian houses, are quite lovely. Having said that, there aren't many places in SE15 where three-piece tweed makes a positive fashion statement (unless it's stab-proof)... Dr W
Think Tel Time is referring to the whole of London which is a bit of a sweeping generalisation but everyone is entitled to their opinion. There are some lovely parts and there's nothing you can't get here but you have to take the rough with the smooth. London still surprises me, you can wander down a narrow back street and find some really interesting places full of history which you never knew were there. It's not for everyone but I still enjoy it here after 10 years.

He gets the train to Moorgate to go to Uni. I would rather pay a bit more for his rent than have him live "In da hood" you think them places are rough you sould see boza WERE I live AND SHEFFIELD. My daughter in law's parents live in Parson Cross, Sheffield. That place is as rough as a Bears ar*e.
