hatsan escort blown up

I have been shooting an escort 3 1/2 inch magnum for 2 years regularly and never had a problem with it at all, cheap gun but does a good job for me, have heared of cartridges with insufficient powder in them leave a wad in the choke , i did exsperience with an over and under a duff filled cartridge, tipped the shot out of the barrel and had to rod the wad out. with a semi auto the lack of gas from a duff cartridge may just be enough to push the shot out and the gas vent out through the gas port leaveing the wad stuck in the choke, theoretical and dont want it to happen to me or anyone , but if it sounds a duff pop check it.

Cheers for all the replies fellas it was my gun that this happened to  ...Edgar Bro's have had other cases of this happening before as the person who answered the phone when the gun dealer rang made very clear  ....they didnt go into any details but just told the dealer to send it back and a replacement gun"not just barrels" would be sent out the following week. After speaking to other shooting friends they also said sounds like a barrel obstruction but i heard no quiet cartridge and definatley had no mud, snow or accorns stuck down the end of the barrel. :o ..the impression i got is the choke was to blame which fell to bits and inturn made the barrel balloon..i have got a couple of pictures but only on my phone at present and they show the choke was partly missing and the barrel a sort of egg shape...glad it was at that end of the gun not the other... :good: lets hope i have a bit better luck with the new one. :o

How can the gun be responsible for a stuck wad?? Hatsans are cheap and perhaps this is the nub of the problem??I remember when Baikals made their entrance to the UK market,oh! they'll never be any good for that price!!etc. They have subsequently proven to be very reliable and long lasting work horses!Surely any competant shooter will check tightness of multichokes and for obstructions in muddy or snowy conditions??How about this for a theory, the choke comes loose due to not being tightened correctly, this then causes a wad to lodge in the gap between thread and choke??Gun is fired again-Bang!Obstruction causes barrel to blow??Well possible!

I had a similar thing years ago with a Baikal and a wad stuck in the barrel. It was a rottweil cartridge that didn't have any powder in it. It left the wad about 3/4's of the way down the barrel.

I collected my empties and they were all sent to the london proof house for anylisis. They confirmed that one of the cases had been fired but had no powder residue in it.

I claimed off the importer of rottweil which at the time was D J LITT in cornwall.

They paid for a new barrel after some arguing.

I would take the gun back to the shop where you bought it and ask them to sort it out.

Is it you Mart is that you out of jail?

Didn't notice that, its still topical because people are always posting various maladies of the Hatsan genre on here.Wouldn't refer to it as dragging barrel the however??? Like I said just because a gun is reasonably priced doesn't make it dangerous! Operator error quite often does though!

You say you were using rio,s i was using clay busters in fibre last year in my maxus, got through a couple of boxes no problem, then a strange report like the shell had not ignited properly i took the barrel off,low and behold the fibre wad was stuck in the end of the barrel, never used them since and never will.
