tweedledee
john i`m sure any of them scopes would be fine on an hmr. i would get a quad barrel in hmr and forget about the scope. s and b`s are a lot of money .me myself i`d rather buy another gun. jmo
Jonno243
Just my tuppence worth mate, but my gut reaction is to agree with tweedledee. Seems an awful lot of money to spend on a fixed scope for thinning out the corvids, especially with the mag range already available on the other two............ However, you obviously have your heart set on an S&B, and if that is the case then go for it. ATB, Jonno

polski
John, had an S+B 8x56 on my .223, superb glass, light gathering was second to none, but the downside for me was the reticle was too thick. Replaced it with an MTC Viper. Rick.

deadeye ive
Here's the deal. Sell two scopes MTC Viper 4-16x50 plus my Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x50 to free up funds. Buy a S&B 8x56. Thoughts? Good idea? Bad idea? Have both a 6 x 24 x 40 Vari X III and a 8x 56 S/b which I swap around on my hmr .With that leup you already have the right glass for 100yd corvid shooting IMO the fixed schmidt is excellant at night or poor light conditions but as a daylight long range scope the leupold will beat it hands down . Forgot to add with my leup you can set the crossair thickness depending on the range but i magine that the thickness of yours won't be that broad Sounds like you have a serious case of I wants buddy
njc110381
I'd buy the HMR barrel for sure, but I'm not sure I'd be spending that much money on a S&B 8x56 to put on it. That Leupold is a lovely scope and would do the job well, I'd say better than a S&B would. Don't get me wrong the S&B is a great stalking scope, I have one myself on the 6.5x55, but the extra zoom of the scopes you have would be useful for precision bunny bashing with the HMR. You don't really need that last daylight use that the Schmidt offers stalkers. When you're shooting Rabbits, just switch on the lamp when the scope goes dark

TheHunter
John I think you have made the right choice, don't just grab the first S&B you can afford, you will be over the moon with optics, clarity and build quality but the fixed focus WILL hack you off in the end. Ended up changing mine for a Leupold VX III
al4x
Yep I reckon you made the right choice as well, I'd not want a fixed mag scope on my HMR it makes all the difference being able to wind up the mag for the longer shots. You'll love the HMR barrel for corvid bashing out to 200 yards
Axe
I'd agree, a fixed scope would make the longer shots much harder.
Hodmedod.one
The reticle on my 8x56 S+B was too Fat. That is why I got rid of it. It is a shame because the optics were superb.
CharlieT
John You really NEED that S&B. You can't really live without it. However what you really need is another rifle to stick it on for lamping............. so the only problem you now have is finding the funds to buy the scope and a rifle !!!
