Patrick1964
Went to Llandegla last night for a play, and had seven carts that didn't go off (out of 50). They are all out of a new case of 250, which has been kept in the dry, inside the house. I spoke to the manufacturer this morning and they've arranged to collect them from the gunshop where I bought them (NWSS), so hopefully I'll get my money back ! It's pretty scary taking dud cartridges out of a gun...... Has anyone else seen such a high failure rate ? Gun is new, by the way, no issues with the firing pin ! Popgun
I had trouble with that a few years back it turned out to be the new gun the gunsmith did some work on the right hand firing pin no probs from that day to this
Patrick1964
Gun is a B525, less than 1000 carts old. The non-firing carts look like they've been smacked good and proper, tried them in another gun and still no go. Carts are Eley Firsts. Miroku Mike
Do yourself a favour here. My Dad had a ropey batch of Gamebore once before. He sent them a letter explaining what was wrong. They got straight back to him saying thankyou for your valid input. A few days later and as a show of appreciation, they delivered 250 of the same cartridges free of charge. Its worth a try, and im sure eley would appreciate hearing first hand if there is a problem with there products.
Patrick1964
Mike - I spoke to Eley this morning, and they couldn't have been more helpful, they have asked me to include a letter, so hopefully I won't be out of pocket. I don't expect to profit, but good customer service is nice to see. I posted to see if my experience is unusual, as I believe.
Miroku Mike
I would say it is unusal as Eley put out good carts. The ones i have used, and quite a few people use them at my local clay ground, Have never had any probs. I like gamebore, but once in a while you can get a ropey batch whatever you shoot i suppose. daddypigsaw
Definitely Eley Firsts. I shoot them regularly 28g 9s, but seriously considering changing. Always having problems. It seems the primer caps are too tough/hard. They only slightly dent compared to other carts. I've shot thousands of Eley Firsts and they seem to be getting worse. Last Saturday's results: 1970's Danarms barely touches them; 6/25 misfire. 3 year old Beretta AL391; 2/25 misfire. 3 year old Miroku MK70; 3/25 misfire. A mate's Beretta 686 doesn't seem to have a problem.
Peter De La Mare
I use Eley First as well and have yet to have my first misfire with them.
pair away
ive use eley firsts on and off for about 4 years now ( 24g/28g )and had 1 miss fire , i had a 1000 batch of 24g fiochii and i did not get through a box ( 25 ) without a miss fire they were the worst shells ive ever used , in my opinion express shells are the best but the price is a mickey take . dogfox
it might not be the carts mate, it could be the firing pin in your gun going weird, generally the best thing to do is to take it out and switch it to the other barrel of your gun, then fire and it has for me, 100% of the time worked (not on my own gun though, have never had a missfire on mine)
ME
bloody eley firsts ! i have had the firing pin and spring changed in my gun and still have problems. I bought 20,000 of the ******* with another PW member. I had 4 mis-fires last sunday, I am gonna call Eley next week - Hrmmph !
Bagsy
Interesting thread this one. I get through shed loads of Firsts (682 gold e) and haven't yet had a misfire. Only problem I find with them is they're no good at breaking rabbits
Chard
I've banged orf a few faaaarsend of them as well, never had a misfire. Must depend on the batch
MC
I shot a shed load of them today and no misfire. I hope Eley Hawk are better at their customer service than Eley Ltd.
Chard
I got some Eley Superb the other day. I thought I'd get some that were named after the way I shoot
clayslayer
Always a problem when cartridges dont go bang to blame the cartridge having test fired( on a ballistics range) and gun fired many thousands of eley first, miss fires are not a problem seen very often, not saying it does not happen at all, but many i have seen are down to the gun. Even on new guns i have seen many off centre strikes and low impact strikes that have been cured by a good gun smith. That said my beretta 682 gold e never seems to fail on any cartridges i have tried.I am certain eley would be glad to here from you and if possible see the missfired cartridges. MC
I sent some .22 rimfire ammo back to Eley and after they ignored me for a month or so all I got was you have a problem with your gun. Strange that I haven't had any lately and I have not done anything to my gun. One round had 12 strikes on it's rim from my rifle and 3 from a club gun yet it still didn't go. I wouldn't waste your energy in sending them back, just change to a different brand.
Patrick1964
I took the carts back to the seller on the 18th - they were expecting them, as Eley had contacted them and told them of the problem. I'm waiting to hear from Eley. I'll post a new thread when I do. So far, I'm happy with their reaction to my problem.
Salopian
Eley have had a problem with primers for some time now. They have done their best to rectify this, but when you consider how many they produce per day it is inevitable some will be stuck on a gunshop shelf just awaiting you or I to purchase them. Patrick is carrying out the correct procedure, box them up return to vendor and await action from manufacturer. If none is forthcoming you know what to do. When clayshooting have a look at what brand of shell case is the most common lying on the floor or in the bin. That speaks volumes, are they the cheapest, best, sponsored or used by the groundowner for corporate work? They probably break the clays, and that is what we are all there for. The bitter taste of poor quality lingers far longer than the memory of the price. Edited November 29, 2008 by Salopian
Wiggum
I brought a 1000 eley olympic trap 7 1/2 and upon opening the first sealed sleeve found 1 box with around 6 cartridges in it and another box was completely empty !. I took both the boxes back to the shop and they swapped them without any hassle but i've never had a miss fire with my cynergy or my lanber before that ? Patrick1964
Well, I'm still waiting, a month after I returned the carts to NWSS, and nearly two weeks after I spoke to Eley and they confirmed they'd had them back. I think it may be time I rang them again.....
neil smith
Iv'e never been impressed by eley carts, the primers seem hard & they are just to smokey & the crimps are not that good & can jam up in auto's. I prefer Gamebore any day. N
