joyoge
I have been trying to make contact with some small local clay shooting clubs as newby to it all and have no other friends who shoot. I don't know if this is the normal thing or possibly because I am female but the only clubs I can make contact with and get a response from are the bigger more expensive ones. I can only work part-time at the mo and so not got loads to spend on the sport but am very keen and interested nontheless. I would also want to buy my first gun soon but feel a bit bewildered doing everything on my own. I am kind of thinking that it possibly isnt the most welcome sport for woman and feel like Joey no mates. I may sound a bit pathetic but I feel like I am getting nowhere
Bigweed
Felt a bit the same when i started - none of my existing mates shot (not that i have many!!!!). It was only through this web site that i've met some great people and now find most weekends i'm shooting somewhere - stick at it and ask around here and i'm sure you'll find some people to shoot with and get than enough advice !!!!!!!! Stealth Stalker
Hi joyoge There are a couple of friendly small syndicate clay clubs very local to you, I was a member until recently, but have too many other hobbies to contend with. Its a shame a well known member of this site local to you has lost the shooting bug, cos he was famous for taking newbies under his wing. Eh PIN! PM me if you want the details of the local clubs & maybe we can get Pin out of retirement to show you the ropes. Cheers SS

garyb
Joyoge There are plenty of local shooters from our area on Pigeon Watch You'd be more than welcome to tag along and break a few clays with me / us - IIRC you have been having lessons at Broomhills?, which is local to myself - or even the A1 (if I have to) PM me GB
J@mes
If its not too far away, I would just go down there on a sunday morning and see if they are open - if they are, walk in, ask for the coach/ whoever runs the show and speak to them. this is what I did and the coach and members were very welcoming! Billy.
Well I was in the process of writing something nice, but garyb stopped me (via msn messenger) If Garyb meets you at broomhills, he'll be the one wearing the pink skeet vest if you can't spot him. I am not too far away from you too, once I get my finances sorted and my **** back into a job, I will gladly join you on a trip to Broomhills
Cosd
Don't be put off and give up on a great sport. There are many people on the forum in or around your area. Why not put a thread on the 'Meet Up' section to have a day with other PW members. Of course be safe and meet at the clay ground where there are plenty of people around etc etc. I'm sure you will get replies and maybe even have a day out where a few members come along for the day. Then you can report back to us and tell us how rubbish any of them are

I may sound a bit pathetic but I feel like I am getting nowhere I would like to join with the others on this thread and say most of us started out just like you . Clay shooting is one of the friendliest sports for a newcomer . At most clubs you will be fighting off offers of help and advice! Try and go along in person to some of your local clubs to meet the people . Ask to see the owner /manager/coach and tell them that you are a newcomer and would like some help getting started . I suspect you will end up spoilt for choice . It is a pity you are "down south" as there are a lot of friendly clubs in the Midlands that I could recommend . Another suggestion would be to ask at your local gunshop. I would be surprised if they could not suggest somewhere for you to start. I know a great many female shooters so don't let the fact that you are one too put you off the sport . Edited December 17, 2008 by T.C. Andy W
When I started I was billy no mates but soon met up with a bunch of others, slowly the numbers have dwindled down except for me and Pair Away, we are the hardcore two, rain, snow or shine we are shooting, any excuse to shoot. Some sunday shoots have so many people on a card and you can go on someone elses card to make up numbers or as a newbie to be shown around by more experienced people. If you were closer to us you would be very welcome to come along, its good for new people to get a chance to sample the joys of shooting, dont get disheartened, I am sure someone will take you under their wing.
