mr lee
bloody death traps. This is my opinion, and is not having a go, starting a fight, winding folk up, or derailing the thread. I did the bike thing when i was a teen, and they should all be smelted. Mum? For a second there I got a scare. You sounded just like her... Whilst I have had multiple crashes in my pursuit of a plastic trophy on a white stone base I know of many lads and even women who race with us who haven't so much as broken a finger nail in all the years of doing it. Off road bikes are only dangerous when the rider rides beyond their own control. I would never stop my children from riding off road bikes if they wanted to. We have some of the best venues ofr them try the sport out safely and under control. Don't get me wrong, I would be Shi***ng bricks all the time they were riding but I wouldn't want to stop them from doing it if they really wanted to. MM
once saw a woman with half a head that had been ground down by the cobbles. she needed more than a hat and some lipstick to fix that one i can tell you. Bikes are for, dare i say it? LOONIES Whats that one bikers always use?................."its the other people on the road who make it dangerous for us bikers"............. You will fall off sooner or later, and i hope you dont get hurt too badly. Although motor-x is very regulated, and controlled, and safe, ect...ect...people still get hurt quite often. chippy18
Just about managing to still compete at Expert Class, but finding i need longer to recover after the meetings so will probably have to call it a day soon. Great sport though. Cheers
POW!
Think I have posted more than once that I like my bikes , Earlier this year my brother and I bought a pair of 450 Crossers . A Yam for him and a Zuk for me , I dont feel too old for them yet , at 60+ , My nephew is curently building a Rorty R2 buggy wuth a Busa engine , A couple of 450 quads , a clay shoot and off roading in some trick 4x4s followed bt a BBQ , is our way to enjoy a week end. a few tents round a bonfire , talk a load of rubbish , with Nice folk , Whats wrong with that??? We just want to spend our time and money as we see fit , POW! P S , Bikes are like guns, ... In the wrong hands they are lethal , having lost a LOT of friends I understand the emotions of others , I too do NOT wish to enter a good or bad debate , Each to our own , while we can . Legislation is emasculating the younger generation , P
Gordon R
I've had motocross bikes most of my life - on and off. Last was a CR500. My lads raced AMCA - eldest in Open Experts - youngest in Open Seniors. Eldest raced CR500s and then 360 KTM. Broke his back in his comeback meeting after 5 years out. Youngest had Husky 577 TC and a 380 KTM. Broke his shoulder - plated - and bad leg break - 13 weeks in plaster. Both knocked it on the head. Best handling bike was the Husky, but the 380 KTM was the quickest bike you could buy. Left CR500s, CR450s and any Japanese machinery for dead. mike.c
had road bikes and off road bikes now just got a 250cc (beta rr ) to follow my kids round on on there rm65 (2006 ) and ktm 50 (2004 ) the thing is bikes never leave your life once youve had then (had then since i was 7 and broken lots of bones along the way leg ,arm collarbones 10 times back 6 months in wheel chair) my girls are only 6 and 8 (they both pestered me for bikes (quads before that ) bikes are great but they do bite (so do guns ,any sport and life )
libs
Did some stuff with quads for a while and after all the danger of playing with racey ones I came off a honda foreman (i know its a work horse) rolled with it and cracked some ribs, concussion etc and almost re-decorated my pants. Got away REALLY lucky with that one! Then played rugby for 3 years and tore my left ACL (i don't have one there anymore) and then after 8 months of rehab I smashed my thumb and decided to pack that in. Now I shoot prone small bore and SO FAR havn't benn killed to death.

There is a difference between pushing your boundaries and riding out of control myzeneye. I have pushed myself as far as I dare before I go too far and end up being thrown down the track or had a warning from the bike. I get to see lads pushing themselves most weekends when we run our events to go faster, smoother and beat the guy in front of them. The only way to go forward is to push your limits. However, there is times when even the most skilled riders go beyond a point where they have full control of the bike and this is when a lot of accidents happen. Being fast isn't just about being able to push yourself beyond your own personal boundaries, it's about knowing where those boundaries are and not going beyond them to a point where you cannot control your riding. Hence my comment.

I know the feeling mucka. Nah not after a row. I never got the whole trials thing myself. Wearing lycra tights with an extra sock down to fool the ladies..no seat..... I'll tell you what though, I seriously give all due respect to them trials lads. We hold an annual trials speed event up at penrith. In 2009 we have the international outdoor trials event there. All the big names etc doing their stuff on one of our courses. Can't wait to go watch that one with the camera! Have some images from the lads who did some of the easier sections this year on my pc and watching them tumble down was scary enough. amateur
As a lad I always stuck to road bikes - probably because in the bike club I belonged to at the time the scramblers (as they were then known) seemed to be the most cerebrally challenged. grasshopper
I raced the quads for a few years.Had a Honda TRX 400 till it got knicked, then bought a TRX 450. I felt a lot safer on 4 wheels than i used to on 2...till i fell off practicing and snapped my collar bone.Lot of grief from work so i had to give it up,still have a DRZ400 though to play on
Carbonrocket
Rode bikes since 16 years old. Went into street racing with Suzuki 600F then RD 350 powervalve, (Wet racing tyres on the road). Sold it all and started into Endurance racing with Honda 250 4 stroke then sold it and went with KTM 250 EX enduro. Bought a used 6day EX and swapped the parts to my newer bike and entered the british championships. Saw a vicious accident on a short enduro with one hour laps. Next lap the ambulance had just got to the poor chap with a -5 groundfrost. Started doing motocross with the AMCA. but the bike was and enduro so had heavier flywheels and different sus, but still 5th places in experts. Sold it all went to Uni then started Mountain biking, started downhill mountainbiking. CRASHED!!! Steped my C6-C7 vertibrai and caused nerve damage which has almost healed after 10 years, but have a nasty grinding in my neck. Started Triathlons and still do sportives and MTB marathons. I would love a large KTM supermoto, but I would even now go stupid, cant loose the two wheel racing urge!!!! Kent
