fieldwanderer
Sorry, haven't read all the thread but qust a quick suggestion / question; I've shot at bisley many times - I love the place and the atmosphere there BUT, there's loads of other ranges in the country, Sywell springs to mind as being one that could cover many bases and the guy that seems to run events there (chris fordham, iirc) is a top bloke. No connection but may be worth looking into if you're still struggling (bisley can be a bit of a "them and us" place). Ferret Master
We have opted for Bisley in the past as we can do both clays and rifles but also because of the fantastic social atmosphere in the evening both at camp PW and the Harley Rally. fieldwanderer
fair enough, I like the atmosphere there too, used to shoot there once a month while being coached (on the british squad, once upon a time). IIRC, Sywell also has clay ranges and an indoor airgun range (as does bisley) but is a much smaller ground and has less night life. Out of curiosity, this skill at arms certificate - is it a new thing? I've never heard of it but saying that, I've always been a smallbore shooter and maybe they just assumed if you were good enough to shoot for the country, you wouldn't be needing it! Dunkield
It doesn't matter who you are, if you want to shoot fullbore rifle at Bisley you need it. Single shot .22's are exempt under 7b in this document. http://www.nsc-bisley.co.uk/common/files/r...regulations.pdf
dunganick
Clays have been booked for the Saturday, 1 till 3 for up to 3 teams. It is £41 a head for 100 clays using our own carts. All carts must be Fibre Wad and all shooters must hold and have with them a valid SGC (im suggesting you have it with you)

Dr W
Stick me down for the clays please. I'm in. I missed the Saturday night goings on last time so have to play catch up and ride the wall of death. I vote MC for chairman I'm sure after last time he's secretly well up for it. MC
HHMM Now let me think about that for a split second. The answer is NO, You can put me down for the clays, and rifles for both days ( I have my safety certificate ) I will be booking the hut again for anyone who is interested. Dr W
MC stop playing hard to get, you know you love the Bisley Range Hitlers. I will pass on the hut as the thought of being close confines with PW members after a night of meat and beer fills me with dread, I believe it was bad enough in Lefty Towers and that was with the doors open! Lefty do you plan to increased your square footage this year, perhaps an undercover car port or a marquee.
MC
Oh OK I'll do it, After all getting banned from shooting at Bisley for 2 weeks wasn't really enough and maybe I can get banned for longer this year. I am going to turn up shoot a few rounds, get plastered and the go home on the sunday. NO organisation at all on my part.

Dougy
Sorry to say i wont be going due to the hassle, time and effort put into the weekend, now expected to take some test to check you point the sharp end in the correct direction, plus my 22.250 exceeds the muzzle velocity for the ranges even though i could reload to drop that, it aint worth it. dougy plus we may get banned again

Dougy
You miserable old *** :o :o Maybe but rather a long way to shoot clays get Pd up wake up with a bad head; thats if you manage to get any sleep, but to be really honest i begrudge having to pay out X amount of money because some health and safety nut has come up with a hair brain idea to spin money and line the golden pocket. would taking this test actually stop some brainless moron from swinging a loaded pistol around like a child with an ice lolly? NO. Not with my hard earned cash they dont !!! end of
Ferret Master
While I am still waiting for the BASC to get back to me, the price we would be paying for the range normally would include the safety certificate so we wouldn't really be paying more than previously. Oh and yes, this year me and Nick have the task of organising it. FM

Vince Green
Just call me ignorant but where is Sywell? Just for the record, the Competence Certificate is an MOD requirement and nothing to do with NRA . The MOD want proof that all people using their ranges are competent because if they allow somebody who is not competent use the range and there is an accident they might be found negligent. So its a massive cost to shooters and clubs against the remote possibility that the MOD might just have to fork out at some stage in the future if a claim was ever made against them. It would be better to put a pound a time on the range bookings and use it to cover an insurance. However, there is a downside, as it can be seen from this thread, it makes life for the simple honest shooter far more complicated and events much harder to organise. There is already evidence that the Police have picked up on it and are now asking for certificates when granting or renewing FACs. What I find most baffling is why the certificates have to be renewed each year? If you are competent that doesn't change from one year to the next. I was passed competent to drive a car when I was 18 and that was it.
LEFTY478
What I find most baffling is why the certificates have to be renewed each year? If you are competent that doesn't change from one year to the next. I was passed competent to drive a car when I was 18 and that was it. The MOD works to the lowest common denominator (or 'RAF' to the other two services ) and insists on all servicemen/women completing a WHT (weapons handling test) annually, as part of their MATTs (or 'ATDs' if you're old and crusty, like me). So if trained soldiers have to jump through the 'yearly' hoop, the chance of them (MOD) lowering the time bar for civvies is zero, understandable.
