Blackbart
Just stick a note in with it explaining exactly what you are putting the form in for.
manc-munsters
As above. A phone call, and email, or a simple covering letter explains all and also tends to speed up the whole process. GMP allow all notifications of disposed/aquired firearms to be done via email now which is much easier. Its amazing how many authorities do allow email notification if you ask first. Breastman
Just like above, i now do all my variations via email or letter and take my FAC and cheque (if required) in by hand. My force doesn't like to use form 101 for variations as it isn't really fit for purpose. I've only ever filled one in once and that was for my grant. Its usually easier to explain what you're after in an email/letter. As also said above i'd ring your Firearms Dept and confirm that it would be ok to do that first as some can be a bit funny about it. Billy.
Why on earth would you get rid of a 22lr and try and get a 1 for 1 for a 243?! A 22lr might be a nightmare round, but it's cheap and it does the job. You're not going to be eating any more rabbits now that's gone Why not just keep 22lr on your ticket and add a 243? al4x
he's just bought an HMR a far superior rabbiting tool
starlight32
he's just bought an HMR a far superior rabbiting tool Superior they may be but to your wallet not if you knock out a few thousand rounds a year. Now the novelty has worn off its bout time this HMR ammo drops in price a bit.
al4x
the same could be said for shooting them with a shotgun, to get twice the range and far more knock down power than the .22 they are worth every penny
Billy.
he's just bought an HMR a far superior rabbiting tool Yes, but there's no harm in keeping a .22lr on the ticket. I stopped using my 22lr when I got my .17HMR, but I've started to go back to using the 22 now, as the ammo is far cheaper and I like being able to use a semi auto when there are loads of rabbits in a field. al4x
I can see the point though must say you can still rattle them down with an HMR and cost isn't major, last night had up to 10 in the same field and as long as you kill the lamp and keep quiet and just leave the engine running you get time to re-load. Cost wise well we shot 32 last night for 35 shots so under £7 really for a nights good entertainment I probably spent nearly as much in diesel If you were shooting thousands then it may be an issue but not for most people
Dave-G
IIRC the big feller was advised about how much better the HMR would be for him at the outset. He has tried .22LR and got it out of his system. A fair point is made to keep it on a 1 for 1 so he can still re-acquire one for free if a bargain comes up but I'd say if someone shoots absolutely loads there are loads more opportunities for a ricochet to occur with unpleasant results for anyone concerned. Lloyd90
Hehe as mentioned I just got a 17 HMR for rabbits I did like the 22 for plinking but I have used the 17 for hunting before and its cracking  That's why I put in for a 22 and a 17, plus I always knew I could do a 1for1 on one of them and add a fox/deer rifle later without having to pay a variation Handed the forms into the HQ today Hopefully it'll be quick lol
