I always shoot standing up for 2 reasons the first time I shot over a hundred I stood up from a seat to take a shot and the next day my legs ache like mad since then have never sat down in the hide also I don't like to look for pigeons through the net I wear a mask and stoop down when the pigeon is coming.

hope this helps

I was sitting down for most of saturday - i don't posess a hide so normally stand in wellies in a ditch and pull some of the reeds over my head to cover me, decoys are in front of me at eye (ish) level.

I went into one of uncles fields at the weekend where he has put 1/2 a dozen straw bales. I arranged them in a fashion so that i was sitting on one with the rest surrounding me - i had a 'porthole' in the front facing the 'kill zone'. I found this worked very well and gave my legs (and normally cold) feet a rest !!

Only shot one all day mind you - got chatting to another chap in one of uncles other fields and he hadn't had much luck either.

Waiting for the beans to come up a little now - perhaps some better luck to be had :)

Usually sit on the tall plastic bucket I carry hide nets about in. It's got a lid and with a couple of sacks (hopefully later used to carry off the slain) on top it's quite comfortable. Leave it in my rucksack so it's not too visible. I try to shoot while still sitting, it's surprising how often birds from a small group will circle back round and drop into the 'coys again after a shot is fired as long as they haven't seen you.

When my lad first started I'd set him in a hide about 20 yards away and call shots for him, the pigeons don't seem to mind hearing you talking even quite loudly, again as long as they can't see you.

Anybody else find this to be the case ??

If I've got time I'll wait until the birdie has commited itself to my deeks, and spring up last minute and take the shot.

Sometimes a bird my sneakly cirlce around and appear from behind, these snap shops are taken sitting.

Wouldn't want your legs after a 300 shot day jumping up and down like that :) , not sure what you guys have against sitting to shoot ??, very interesting.

I always shoot sitting on either a plastic tub or a little chair, i have found on many an occasion that if i fire my gun then reload very gracefully and smothly i get another chance at the same bunch coming back :) as they don't see you behind the hide.

I also do quite a bit of shooting with my dad, i too have found that you can still talk quite loudly and the pigeons are not put off.
