andy33
Hows this for a question, my wife was at work today and was talking to a Dr, whilst generally makin conversation she happened to drop in that i had been doin quite a bit of shooting. What kind of shootin he asked, oh Pigeons, crows and rabbits, i think he shoots on farmland. His reply was as he had any vaccinations against the diseases they carry?? because its real easy to pick up any airborne virus they happen to be carrying. Carefull or not, gloves i mean, makes no difference. B)

CZ550Kevlar
There is something you can catch from pigeon faeces but not sure what it is. it is worse in dried pigeon faeces when it is in dust form.

Heard the same, i think it involved people working in old buildings/attics where pigeon's have been roosting a while. Don't think it invoves woodies though. blackthorn
shot all me life, rabbits, pigeon, squirrel, crows, magpies, rats, the odd duck and pheasant 56 and still kicking the one to take a little care with is rats, you don't want the old rat catchers disease

I say if you wash your hands after you have handled game, vermin you'll be ok and cover up any open wounds with a plaster to keep Weils disease at bay. mikee
I always make sure my hep B and lepto jabs are up to date you never know when you might cut yourself while out in the country, a few years ago my mate was water skiing and fell in and must have swallowed some water with the lepto virus in it, within days his organs began to fail and he was dead inside a week, i think the bird **** disease is coccidiosis which is also very nasty, unlikely to catch it from woodies but a good chance from those dirty plonker city center flying rats mikee
markb
I remember a while ago Fred Dibnah of the steam engine fame etc, was made very ill by putting is cap back on after it had fallen into a water tank full of pigeon droppings, he recond he just gave it a bit of a wipe over a put it back on his head ? weils disease is something you realy don't want to get involved with, a friend on the farm down the road caught it from handling feed sacks with rat pee on she was ill for about 3 years, only got the all clear after 5 years. CZ550Kevlar
Incase anyone finds it useful Weils disease presents itself as flu like symptoms, we have to carry little cards around to give to a hospital or doctor.
