Harnser
Was having a drive around the farms today looking for pigeons .I drove along a private concrete road to one of the farms and was aware of a police car following me . When i got to the end of the road ( about half a mile ) i stopped and got out of the car and asked the police sergeant if he was looking for some body . He introduced himself as the rural crimes liaison officer and was driving round just looking . We stood and had a chat for about 20 minutes and i introduced my self to him and explained what i did on the farm (pest control ) . It turned out that he was all so a shooting man and was in a syndicate not to far from where we were standing . He told me that the constabulary was concerned about the number of thefts from farms and they where paying particular attention to the more rural parts of the county were these crimes were more likely to happen . He gave me his phone number and told me to contact him if i saw anything suspicious happening around the farms . A very pleasent young man . Harnser . Windy
At the risk of coming clean....had intended to keep it quiet (I get enough grief at work), but I regularly patrol around my local farms. Particularly the ones that suffer from metal theft and metal detectorists. Also last year, not too far away from my patch a keeper had a pen full of poults taken. Yesterday my local keeper told me he was expecting his poults towards the end of the month. Told him I'd keep an eye on the pens when on night shifts. Should help with some pigeon action in the not too distance.

Mungler
Where is Pavman? I expect that he has inadvertently welded himself into his shed and accidentally cocooned himself into some form of box steel straight jacket
Highlander
Pavman is alive and well and living (temporarily) in Portugal. He’s building some brownie points with Mrs P and they’ve taken a short break from all that welding. If you’d like to try your hand at some breaking and entering PM me and I’ll pass on his address. Personally I think pavman has been watching to many re-plays of the Mad Max movies. We’ll be seeing a fox shooting gyrocopter next!
rigwallet
had police myself a few weeks back when out shooting been reported far shooting over field of horses and scattering them which of course was untrue but one of the police firearms officers who attended was a shooting man himself and egreed with me when i told him what and where i was shooting was legal and safe and he was full of smiles as he told me his wife had rung him up to say his rimfire license had just come and he had gained permission to shoot rabbits at night on the lamp. Baldrick
We tried to get the police out at the weekend to try to apprehend four scrotes riding quad and motocross bikes through our fields of peas, borage and winter wheat (why do they have to pick high-value crops?). The police did nothing, despite the startlingly clear evidence of criminal damage and motoring offences, just giving me a crime reference number as an attempt at resolving the matter. We have a lot of acres here, and some very capable earth-moving equipment. I do wonder whether some sort of mass grave is in order as a means of thinning out the scum on the periphery of polite society.

Baldrick
Any sign/gate/fence/hedge we put up is ripped out, burnt down or smashed to bits within a matter of days. I would prefer a sign saying 'Beware of 150gr V-Max - we do not miss'. The Police tell me that would give out too confrontational an image, and might offend some of the charming folk on their quad bikes.

MJN
Strategically placed drainage ditches??? not a problem in Norfolk I would have thought, generally plenty of dykes up there, but NE Essex :-( they would be very dry M.
Baldrick
Yes, this is an NE Essex-related problem. We have dug miles of obstructive ditching along several byways, but that has no effect. Bikes and quads can squeeze through the smallest of gaps, and it was made very clear to me by the Police that I would be the one before the judge if the unwelcome visitors were caused harm. The Police let two of these scumbags ride off onto and along the public highway, on unregistered bikes. I wouldn't have minded so much if they had kept to fallow land and permanent pasture. In such circumstances (ie letting the 'youts' ride off on unroadworthy bikes after causing damage to your land) I really think you need to make a complaint re the old bill interaction. I am not an advokate of this tactic but if your local plod arent doing their job someone needs to let them know.... From what you have said these people are commiting several offences for which the police have powers of vehicle seizure as well as the obvious road traffic act offences - Try mentioning sec 59 police reform act to the Inspector when you make your complaint.... I would be nice but firm and if that fails contact your local councillor (who will almost certainly contact the police for you...) Good luck with it Edited June 9, 2009 by Newsportshooter
