Salop Matt
Okay folks I have my HMR that I love to bits but if i were to put in for a centrefire what calibre would you recomend to me ? What I would be looking for is a calibre i can buy good factory ammo for as i dont want to home load. Quarry would be fox, rabbit & crow, am praying one day i will have land with munti`s on but its no where in site any time soon ! Cheers
al4x
.223 is what you want fits all those and is probably the cheapest to run with factory ammo

Lloyd90
If down the line you want to shoot deer then go for a 243 mate Will do anything you want and if you want to shoot any UK deer species then you can Don't limit yourself!
steve_b_wales
Get a 22-250. PPU factory loads are around £8 for 20, but are accurate.
Salop Matt
Dam I was hoping to hear £10 for 20 rounds or cheaper ! Looks like i will stick with my HMR for now unless i start earning more or come into unexpected cash !

blackbird
Got to be a .222 or .
Loki
Hiya I would suggest a .222, with ammo about £12.00/20, reloading would be cheaper after initial set up costs. Flat shooting, easy on the shoulder, and more than capable for the species you indicate at ranges the average/keen shooter will be engaging at. Plus it can be used for Muntjac when you get onto some (and Roe deer in Scotland straight away). Having said this you can then, when the opportunity arises put in for a deer calibre for all the medium-larger deer to be found in the UK - .308 is recognised by many as a good allrounder, 6.5x55 is another et al - all reloading well. sharpshot
.222 would suit you fine i'm about to reload my own but at the mo i spend £12 per 20 rnds on good ammo. about to move up to 22-250 tho soon.
