Spaniel
I think it is more to do with a mathamatical sum of number of cartridges divided by the number of hits equal the number of pigeons you shoot......C/H=P  Edited July 22, 2009 by Spaniel

NO! They have quotas in the States but I don't think pigeon are on any restrictions list there either. Just kill as many as you can, there is not a shortage
Cranfield
No, there is no law on the amount of any vermin on the General Licence that you can kill in a day.
M ROBSON
Most people try to shoot as many as they possibly can, if they keep coming, keep shooting. I've met a couple of guys in recent years that have packed up themselves, or phoned to get packed up halfway through the day when they've reached the 50 mark. A rather refreshing break from the norm! Mark.

anser2
No limit , just do not shoot more than you can eat, sell or give away, Nothing gives shooting a bad name like wasteing shot birds. Edited July 25, 2009 by anser2
Kron
No limit , just do not shoot more than you can eat, sell or give away, Nothing gives shooting a bad name like wasteing shot birds. Before I start I am not having a go at anyone as I have done this myself. But would you class freezing and using (and refreezing and reusing) dead birds as decoys until they become slightly ropey as wasting? When you stop and thing is it really different to burying pheasants?
Billy.
Before I start I am not having a go at anyone as I have done this myself. But would you class freezing and using (and refreezing and reusing) dead birds as decoys until they become slightly ropey as wasting? When you stop and thing is it really different to burying pheasants? Remember that you are working as a pest controller, so you need to shoot what you can to save the farmer's crops. I keep a load in the freezer. Eat what I can. Sell what I can. Give away what I can, and finally, leave some out for charlie. Remember, a flock of pigeons will clear an acre of seed a day. However, your comment about pheasants should be removed, if that's what your shoot does. If a shoot needs to bury pheasants, then it should not operate. A game dealer will take the birds from a shoot. The burying of pheasants is immoral and wasteful. I would happily take all the pheasants from any person who wanted to bury them, as I have endless people who will take them from me. I truly hope that your shoot doesn't bury pheasants, as this is just the sort of fuel antis want to get shooting banned. :whistling: Edited July 27, 2009 by harfordwmj
anser2
I was taught to shoot by some old fen boys and one thing you never, never do is shoot wildfowl , game or pigeons and waste them. It gives a very bad image to the public ( and we are watched by the public more than many of us realise ) and if any of the farmers caught me doing it I would be kicked off and lose my pigeon shooting as quick as lightning. Indeed that’s how I picked up one of my farms. The guys who shot the farm used to dump a lot of their pigeons in the hedge bottoms. The farmer went ballistic and not only kicked them off his farm , but also spread the word to other farmers and as far as I know they still have not got any pigeon shooting. When I have finished shooting I normally work all the surrounding hedgerows and woods with my dog ( as long as there are no pheasant release pens close by ) , its surprising how many extra birds you can pick up. Any poor quality birds that are not suitable for the table get buried. Kron I can see no problem with freezing birds for future decoy use. I do it myself. There is no excuse apart from laziness leaving birds in the field as there is a ready market for the birds at the butchers who cant get enough. 35p a bird at the moment. I have sold £57.75 worth of pigeons in the past week and that’s a useful help to the cartridge funds.
George1990
Only time you should leave them is if you're damaging too much crop in the process. And of course when the crop is standing is when the pigeons are causing most damage, so is the best time to get them for the farmer, even though you may leave some.
