what is the best spodding bait

Anything can be spodded mate, so long as it's not really sticky and you've rammed it right down the spod.

Hemp, pellets, wheat, boilies, broken boilies, corn and even chunks of meat are all worth trying.

Don't fill our spod up to the brim or you'll get loads of spod spill - bait falling out early and feeding another swim.

I used to cap my spod mix off with some dampened groundbait - just a little bit poured over the other particles and gently pressed down so it holds the bait in the spod until you strike it out.

Regarding the best bait to spod - that depends on which species you're after.

I've used spods for carp, barbel on the Trent, pike in the Fens, bream, tench and even chub.

What are you trying to catch?

Thought it wouldn't be long before we were teleported to another department

You're spot on - spods are miles cheaper than PVA, but it's not more accurate.

If you use your line clip you've got a high chance of hitting the spot, especially if you use a marker float set up.

You may find PVA bags are more accurate than spodding, which is not as easy as it looks.

Of course it does depend on the distances you are fishing, but I often use the "method" when I fish for carp and tench at distances up to 50-60 yards.

PVA bags for anything much longer.

they have banned any nuts or corn and they have also banned the method feeder :(:hmm::( as it was polluting the lake so the spod and the pva bags are the last methods remaining. i also need some advice on the actual bait itself as the carp are getting wise to boilies and halibut pellet. any idea's ?

Pigeon conditioner such as Red Band is really good, you can always add a few pellets if you wish.

Very odd that they think the method feeder is polluting the lake, it would depend on what bait it was being used with and then it would be almost impossible to introduce enough via a method feeder.

As far as the bait is concerned, the fish know what boilies are, just try a different one - CC.Moore Odyssey XXX has been very good for me.

when i fill my spod i half fill then dip it in lake to fill with water this helps for distance and some strange reason holds the bait in.work for me so try it......also have you tryed breaking the boiles up and pva bagging them outand try a cut up boiley on your hair rig or a csl pellet on the hook.

ive also on a lake where they banned boilies because they worked too well got dry boilie mix and mixed it with crushed halibut pellets and ground bait it worked wonders.

If you are going to use a lot of hemp then buy the uncooked hemp, its a heck of a lot cheaper than the cooked stuff from a Tackle Shop.

Any seed merchant, pet shop, agricultural merchant sells it.

To prepare it, buy the largest , cheapest flask you can find.

Fill it 3/4 full with hemp and then pour boiling water on top until flask is full, then screw down the stopper.

Leave overnight and in the morning you will have perfectly cooked hemp, without stinking the house out.

If you boil it in a saucepan in the kitchen, you will see what I mean about a stink.

You can also bag it up and freeze it to use later.

You could also try the "A" Mix from Hinders. It is almost like a soup texture, smells luvverly and creates a cloud in the water that the carp go mad for.

Hinders Spod Soup is also good on it's day.

One of the best hookbaits I have ever tried for carp is two grains of that plastic, pop-up yellow corn. The real stuff might be banned on your lake, but plastic corn won't be.

Hair-rig it, and put either a BB shot or a little heavy putty (from Kryston) onto the hooklength around an inch from the eye of the hook, to pop it up just off the bottom.

It's a killer bait mate

i use vitalin and hemp a hell of a lot as a spod mix works a treat as for hook fake corn really is hard to beat if you want to save a feew quid though cut some yellow sponges into corn shapes and soak in c.s.l then use on a hair rig i have caught loads of fish doing this
