BIG BRUSH WITH THE LAW WHILST SHOOTING TODAY

Recommended Posts

nial

I would unload it straight away ,and put in a gun slip and ask to see the firearms officer.

iam saying co oparate with them but only give it to a trained person.

Gun safety first!

if you start pointing loaded guns at people ,your a idoit.

I dont think iam getting my point across clearly here.

You certainly aren't. Either that or you're not reading the other posts.

If a police officer tells you to hand it over, YOU HAND IT OVER and aren't in a position to be selective as to who you hand it over to. If you try to be then it's YOU who are the idiot.

If it's loaded and they still want it then you inform them of the condition i.e. "the rifle is loaded but the safety is on, do you want it in this condition or can I unload it please"? Chances are with a polite approach you'll get to unload it. But don't expect it.

Advice like "only give it to a trained person" is going to get someone into bother mate.

well iam all for gun safety and so are most people on here.

please read all my posts on this.

iam always polite and that makes a hell of a differance.

You are taking what am saying totally wrong, you Must always co-oprate.

Stay with the gun in sight until a firearms officer gets it.

iam not say point it at them ,put it down or in a slip..

attitude does make a big differance.

We're getting there. Once you've handed it over to the officer you may not be able to keep it in sight. A firearms officer won't always attend and it isn't necessary to have a firearms officer to take possession of it. Any more misconceptions?:D

This is my last post on this as we should all be on the same side on here.

I have seen and come across the police a few times when shooting, I live very rural ,

If you smile and are polite, they are norminal ok.

I always carry a copy of my cert(never been asked for it).

Young cops can be a bit off.

Always break the gun open ,look like you should be there, and not be rude.

I guess iam not on the edge of london which may make a difference.

I still would not give a gun to a untrainned person.

I would feel bad if it hurt anyone.

i have no misconceptions on gun safety what so ever not one.(id give it all up if i did)

I feel sorry for evil elivis and feel the cops were out of order,

I would suggest to everyone on here a photo copy of the cert is a must!

Beware evil elivis do everything by the book,

cheers and bye

scott

Mr Salt, from one mr s to another. Are you saying you would refuse to give a non firearms policeman any of your guns, that sort of attitude is more likely to get a call to the firearms team. While i can understand your view point re: giving someone who doesn't know one end of a gun from another(i can remember when the local bobby came round to FAC/SG application.)at the end of the day any police officer can demand you hand over your guns.

I just hope evil elvis keeps shooting,

I would say write to your MP and the firearms officer.

Explain what happened and try to make sure it does not happen again.

Thank you.there is nothing that could or would stop me from shooting !!!

I have spoken to my firearms officer and he said niether side knew the law well enough. I now do and am older and wiser. i wont be pursuing the matter as i feel it best to drop it.

i will be however speaking to the people in the nursery and letting them know where and what time i will be shooting that land........the sky will be blue when those beans are harvested and im not going to miss out on a chance like that!!!

JUST FOR THE RECORD:

I deliberatelty unloaded my gun in front of them as it was a semi in order that they could see it was unloaded....truth is, these guys were non-firearm police and despite the bull **** i did feel a little sorry for them, they were young and genuinley looked frightened.

"If a police officer tells you to hand it over, YOU HAND IT OVER and aren't in a position to be selective as to who you hand it over to. If you try to be then it's YOU who are the idiot."

And you say: here your majesty, here is the firearm you requested. Would you like me to wipe it over with a cloth so it's worthy of going in your pristine hands?

Just to go back to the original post for a while, this whole situation and 8 pages worth of posts could have been saved by just going to a newsagents, buying a £1 waterproof zip-lock wallet and having your original FAC/SGC with you . . . . . :good::lol:

Even if i didn't keep my FAC & SGC in waterproof wallet i'd still rather take it with me and get it a bit wet and muddy that have this kind of carry on. Just my two penneth!

Fair enough, I might have different interests compared to other people. :good:

Yeah coming back to the topic since we are diverging, I always carry my SGC with me even to the clay ground where I have never been asked for it but just in case I get stopped in my car going home. However I was unaware that you DIDN't need your SGC on you at all times whenever the gun was in your posession. AS far as I can recall my Feo told me to always take it with me when I take my gun out of the house.

Strange I thought you cycled to the clay ground and were looking forward to being stopped.

:hmm: Just spoke to John Hopes who told me that I was technically wrong:

If a police officer asks to see your certificate then until you produce it then they have the rights to confiscate your guns until such time that you produce your up to date cert. Ooooooooooooooooops!!! :good:

But the officers there clearly didnt know that fact either....................

He advised me to take a photocopy on the shoots with me though also stated that this is not 100% acceptable it may get you out of trouble. and to carry your permision slips at all times.

But I suggested calling in to the police whenever i shoot there, he said it was a good idea but may not stop you getting visits

and he thought that the idea to contact the nursery each time is also a good idea.

My feo has retired and its only the second time i have spoken to John ....what a pleasant helpful chap with a wicked sense of humour lol.

Baz

if you remember i posted on this some time back and many said they dont have written permission or maps,,, in such a case you are in smelly brown stuff up to your neck, had there been a real problem and you had no written permission would the land owner backed you up if it looked like it would cost hard cash???

I have just given up 160 acres of prime marsh as the land owner would not put pen to paper.... there are Antis that disrupt but not withstanding that you can not be to carefull, i always carry a copy of my permission letters, an e mail print out from BASC stating i can legally carry my rifles on my quad gun rack on a public road (as long as its empty and the mag is in my pocket) copy below.. and a copy of my certs...

Hello Dan,

The rifle must be unloaded before you go onto a public place, but it does not need to be out of view. So you can unload the rifle and put it on the rack and then travel down the road. As long as the rifle is never left unattended it is not a problem.

Regards

Alan

What training do you need to be issued with a SGC?

Are you saying that everyone should have to undertake training in order to get a SGC?

Harry

I think he ment Authorised, by way of certificate or Authorisation (police)

as in only another certificate holder can know the location of the keys are to your cabinet..... you wife/mum/dad can not unless they too are a cert holder as you undertake conditions as a holder of said cert.....
